Yeah, we have some of those too; including those that wear loafers and/or sandals.

I remember reading something about two guys in a bar. One wore the cowboy hat, boots, and all. The other wore loafers and a baseball cap. The second was the real cowboy; he couldn't afford all the trappings.

If three guys are riding in the single cab pickup how do you know which one is the real cowboy?

The one in the middle. He doesn’t have to drive or open the gate.

I had a friend who was quite the Cowgirl who lived close by. View attachment 661135

I liked and missed that kind of outdoorsy, get your hands dirty, woman. She moved to Costa Rico or something like that.

She might be quite the Cowgirl, but she isn't wearing the right footwear. Cowboy boots have leather bottoms so if thrown, your foot will slide out of the stirrup. Tennis shoes' rubber soles can impede the shoe sliding out of the stirrup. I had a cousin loose his life this way when he was 7 or 8. Thrown from the horse and his shoe got caught in the stirrup. He hit his head on a stone. It happens more than you think.

Oh yeah......................I am down here in The great state of Texas.

I remember, when I was young, my brother and I always fought on who was gonna ride by the door and open and close all the gaps on Grandpa's Panhandle farm. Year's later, we fought to ride in the middle so we wouldn't have to get out and open and close the gaps.

That riddle /question made me smile . Around 45 years ago when 3 of us young men would be ridin in a pick up truck in the city . When we were coming up to a good group of people or at a busy intersection the guy who knew this trick and was sittin next to door once in a while would duck down and reach over and attempt to hit the drivers horn . That way when people looked to see what vehicle was hitting the horn they would see two males sitting real close to each other .

It was funny because the guy ridin next to door never never got to see the people's reaction from the other vehicles , pedestrians what have you . I remember doing it once to one of the bigger guys in our group of friends who was driving us in his like 1964 Dodge pick up . He started hollering at me to "get up" , and he reached over and hit me in the ribs and I got up but it was still funnier than he// .

Little known fact. My Dad told me that many, many years ago...not only that, but the thin, tapered toe was designed that way on purpose...in addition, an easy slip-on boot might just be easier to slip off if all else fails.

Friends and neighbors of mine had horses some years ago. She offered to teach me how to ride. I thought, how hard can it be? I had ridden Trail horses before. I just somehow expeced the horse to read my mind and go and do what I want. What a humbling and embarrassing experience.

As for the Cowgirl. She did wear cowboy boots most of the time and surrounded herself with cow"girl" themed things.

Yep, I've been involved in that a few times. Usually the one stuck having to open the gates was getting some revenge on the other two. :D

In the english world, breakaway stirrups have become more popular. I suspect the thinner english stirrup design is easier to get hung up, even with proper footwear.

I knew a woman in her twenties that was a professional 3-day eventer. She came off, got her foot stuck, and was dragged to her death.

My wife had a very minor-looking fall, and she broke her hip clean through. Even before the x-rays, the emergency room guy said it must be broken, because her right leg was shorter than the left.

It is a fun, but dangerous, activity.

Maybe a ROPS and seatbelt should be mandated.

I'm guessing tractors are SAFE compared to horse riding.
