In the english world, breakaway stirrups have become more popular. I suspect the thinner english stirrup design is easier to get hung up, even with proper footwear.

I knew a woman in her twenties that was a professional 3-day eventer. She came off, got her foot stuck, and was dragged to her death.

My wife had a very minor-looking fall, and she broke her hip clean through. Even before the x-rays, the emergency room guy said it must be broken, because her right leg was shorter than the left.

It is a fun, but dangerous, activity.

I'm reminded of a story my Dad told me. He grew up on the farm; worked horses on the farm, and rode horses, even to school. I made the remark, that it must have been fun, riding horses all the time and using them on the farm. He said "He** no, it wasn't fun. Horses are dangerous, and if you weren't careful, they would kill you. Tractors, he said, were the best thing that ever happened to farming".

Little known fact. My Dad told me that many, many years ago...not only that, but the thin, tapered toe was designed that way on purpose...in addition, an easy slip-on boot might just be easier to slip off if all else fails.

Yeah, back in our youth, my brother and I would sleep bareback on one of our horses. 3 of us rode our horses to the store everyday in the summer and on the weekends during school. Mom never worried. Our horses never had horseshoes on their feet. We rode bareback alot.
We rode in the car laying under the back window of the car and in the back of pickups. We drank out of a water hose. We stayed outside all day until dark, or when Mom called us home. Yep, those were the days.

I'am guessing you all referring to the bell stirrup , then there's the oxbow , the vasilia kinda like an oxbow design but flat on the bottom, etc . Ah but wait ! How about a hand made set of premium leather tapadero's to go with them ?

Friends and neighbors of mine had horses some years ago. She offered to teach me how to ride. I thought, how hard can it be? I had ridden Trail horses before. I just somehow expeced the horse to read my mind and go and do what I want. What a humbling and embarrassing experience.

As for the Cowgirl. She did wear cowboy boots most of the time and surrounded herself with cow"girl" themed things.

Those sneakers didn't appear to have any laces either.
