I had a 30 + year old Craftman 1/4" ratchet that was just plain wore out. I picked a new one off the shelf and took them both to the checkout, walked out with the new one no questions asked. They have a locked box right by the checkout stand that all the old or broken tools went into. I don't know if they just keep them there till it gets full and throw them out or if they send them back to the factory for evaluation or what.
A few weeks later I broke a big Craftsman socket by using a 5 ft cheater on a breaker bar trying to get my ZTR mower blades off, took it in and got a new one, no problem.......
I don't know if it's a regional thing, a store thing or what, but I've never had them hesitate to warranty replace any Craftsman tool I've taken in, regardless of age......
I've also never had a problem with any Snap-On tool getting a replacement, although I've broken very few of them - and always by inappropriate use! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
