that really makes ya wonder.. don't it. ??? :( :(

and remember.. those people that fall for it.. they breed and vote too.. :( :( :( :(

Some have even been elected!!

I have seen most of the scams you guys are talking about and it makes me wonder why would anyone reply to an obvious "not of our nation" E mail. Spelling, poor phrasing and other indicators, or its a 4 year old on dads PC.

heck.. I hate the adds that ONLY list tel #'s.

there are many times I'm in a place i simply can't call from.. but CAN email from.

I always disable the email feature in the CL posts, and only list the phone number.

When I did accept email on CL ads I would waste one to three hours a day checking and answering email. When I'm working I don't have time to deal with emails or play on the computer, and it's a lot easier to answer all of someone's questions on one phone call than have to respond to several individual e mails (in one case twelve different e mails from one person).

I also list the days and times I accept calls. It's sctually surprising how many people are too stupid to understand business hours by calling or showing up well after the listed business hours.

For a small set-up and monthly fee our local phone company will create a voice mail box with its own phone number that doesn't ring at our home. The greeting length is 60 seconds which I use to describe the item I'm selling and then ask the caller to leave their name, number and best time to return the call. This option allows me to abbreviate the description of the item if I choose to use the classified section of a paper which costs are driven by number of lines + I never have to list my home or cell number thus ensuring privacy and lastly, I can retrieve messages to my choosing day or night, i.e., no late calls, etc. Of course you'd have to weigh the expense against the item you're selling but for higher dollar items.

Use a majicjack phone # for your craigslist dealings, last thing anyone needs is someone blowing up their cell six months after they bought a $100 item because they broke it...and for scam E-mails send them your BIL's info...if they want to send a check...have it sent in the name of your local district attorney, right to his office.

I use a Google Voice phone number for Craigslist. It gives me a local number that I can forward to my cell if I want, it will transcribe voicemails and send them as an email or a text and I can setup per-number blocks to stop annoying callers.
The best part is that it is free.

on the flip side.. I 99% never check out an add with a tel # only.

I can recall making 1 single contact to a tel# only add.

my up hours I'm regularly available are usually at night, vs being in a place I simply cannot call out from.. if someone can't take an email.. IMHO.. they likely shouldn't be listing it on a pc network.. :)

I like the ones (like this one) which list a phone number, say phone calls only, but they didn't select "no email" when creating the ad, so there is an email address too.

I'd say if a bank accepts a check and deposits cash in your account, it's on them at that point. That would be the logical thing to do, but hey, this is the US and when it comes to the banking industry, nothing is logical.

the scam is, they will try to send you a fake cashiers check.. which you cash, then they go pick up your stuff.. then the check bounces. sometimes they overpay, and have you send the rest back tot hem as a check or cash.. or to a 3rd party for shipping.. when the cashiers check bounces.. you are out the bounce money plus the item.. plus what you returned as change or sent to a 3rd party.

I wish they'd pursue these guys, catch them, and skin them alive... publically... then pop their heads out on poles at the entrance to cities .

and yes.. i'd be PERFECTLY fine with this kind of punishment for these types of organized crime types.

soundguy

exactly! payment fails to clear/bounces/fake after the goods are shipped/picked up.

your on the hook if payment doesn't clear.
