Craigslist Scam I can't figure out

Yep, cash only for me, and when I sell something, it is only local, and I meet them at a parking lot in a busy area I know well. When I buy on CL, same thing - sometimes I will go to their house, but only in an area I know - usually from an upscale neighborhood.

As for as phone and emails - our house policy is this: we did not ask for a phone call or email, we ALWAYS consider calls and emails to be intrusive into our lives, and most calls go straight to answering service for screening, emails are blocked and NEVER replied to! If that doesn't work, well, I have hounds, guns, etc. for backup...

my up hours I'm regularly available are usually at night, vs being in a place I simply cannot call out from.. if someone can't take an email.. IMHO.. they likely shouldn't be listing it on a pc network.. :)

One of my sons works graveyard shift, when he needs to contact a business by phone he's able to find a way to do it during their business hours.

Almost all of my CL listings are business related. In my experiance I've found that the serious buyers can almost always find away to make a phone call DURING my business hours, as opposed to me having to waste a lot of time on the computer during my business hours chasing a bunch of mostly dead end email.

Since I am my only employee if I'm not working I don't get paid. Since I do only local sales email hasn't proven to be cost or time effective for MY business model.

Just had the below sent to me regarding an ad I have on Craigslist for a pottery kiln. Sadly the odd person gets sucked in by these a&@holes.

Thanks for getting back to me, anyway i am ok with all the details
i have gotten, please kindly withdraw the advert, i don't mind adding
$50 for you to withdraw the advert from Craigslist to avoid
disturbance also to be informed that i will pay you with a certified
check and once you have the check cashed at your bank then i will
arrange for the pick up by engaging the services of a mover, which will
be picking it up at your location..I will need the following details
to mail the payment as soon as possible.
Name to be on the check____
Home address____
City____
State____
Zip Code_____
Cell phone #______

Kindly get back to me so the payment can be mail out
Asap.
Thanks

Many times the cashier's checks are not fake. Contrary to popular belief one can place a stop payment on a cashier's check. They are not " good as gold" and people get scammed by accepting the check, delivering the goods, and tehn finding out their good ( non-counterfeit) cashier's check has been cancelled.

like I said.. it's just how I roll..I'm sure others are different. unless it's something i have a burning desire for.. if there is no email.. it gets overlooked. all depends on how bad someone wants to sell something IMHO. the serious sellers who want something to move Asap are the ones that usually post multiple forms of communication.

I'm fine with jumping thru hoops for the 'final' handshake over the phone before I start driving with a trailer.. but lil details like directions and whatnot are generally best left to email.. that way they can be .. you know.. printed out.. vs mistranslated when tring to writ ethem down.. :)

BTDT :)

as was pointed out by others.. what works for some don't work for others.. etc..

Personally, I like to send an address and a link to our house on Google maps. The road we are on has 4-5 names and at least 3 sets of numbers in a 10 mile stretch, so emailing them a link to Google Street View so that they see what the place looks like (well what it looked like 3-4 years ago anyways) gets them here much faster than just an address over the phone.
