Crazy Weather

Bird, I kept checking the NWS website all day yesterday because it was raining in Sunset yesterday morning when I left for work at DFW Airport. It kept raining slowly here most of the day, but stopped mid-afternoon.

Up until 4:00 pm, I thought I was going to have to go to my other house in Grand Prairie and do some watering, but right before 5:00 pm, the weather just came out of nowhere and really let go.

By the time I got to Decatur last night, all the rain had stopped. Except for one light shower overnight, it hasn't rained anymore here, so my total is only about 2". That's about the perfect amount for the conditions of my ground. I'm very happy with it, but not looking forward to driving to work this morning. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It always amazes me how just 70 miles can be so different as far as weather goes, especially since we don't have mountains or anything to stand in the way of weather moving in. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Your right Bird! It's been one crazy year. We're getting alot of rain up here in Vermont. Need more sun for growing time. Although I'll say my sons first pumpkin/gourd patch is looking good. He's getting excited about sellin pumpkins this year. It's so much fun to watch him decide on were to sell and how much to charge. Of course when your only seven it's all big decisions!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Had to get a Northern weather report in here. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif You all take care!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We'll probably get your rain over the next few days here. According to the NWS we have a 40-50 percent chance the next couple of days. However, we have had very cool weather for about three days. High temps in the seventies with lows in the sixties is unheard of here in late July! I'm certainly not complaining as I've really enjoyed the fall-like days in the midst of "dog-days".

It finally quit raining here (at least temporarily) about 7:30 a.m. and the most recent news report says we only got 5.61 inches in Coppell (NW corner of Dallas county for you out-of-staters), but 10" to 12" in the Lancaster/DeSoto area (SE corner of the county). So I'm just thankful, both for the rain and for the fact that we're not among the 175 to 200 homes flooded in the SE part of the county.

Bird,

Driving home from work this morning (at 0400), was lots of fun... espcially the first 40 miles since the whole way it was raining like a cow peeing on a flat rock in the middle of a creek!

55 mph was too fast most of the way!

BIRD: sure has been a strange spring and summer, have had tons of rain, grass is as green as it is in may. temps have been very cool and nothing but clouds.Had some sun today, but all that did was raise the humidity as it baked the standing water. I finally broke dow and bought a window a/c for the computer rm. 2 weeks ago, have yet to turn it on /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Frank, of course we have central air and are quite accustomed to turning it on in late May or June and never turning it off again until late September or October. And we seldom turn off the ceiling fans, too. However, the past week has been pretty pleasant outside early in the morning.

45.7 degrees this AM. The deck has mold growing on it from all of the rain. Watershed is up to 85% (normally around 92% at this timne of year), so even with all of the rain we are still a little behind. We haven't had a single digit humitidy day yet. Very unusual for out here.

I am not complaining, we just don't need it all at once!!

Maybe its partly to blame because of the " Green House effect" ? LOL /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Must have sent that rain to Missouri. My rain gage had 4.5" in it this morning. My nice smooth driveway is cut in a half dozen places and about 25% of the gravel I put on it three weeks ago is washed into the ditch.
