The cap fits on the pipe really nice.

Now I need to finish cutting those notches in the square tubing, then cut matching ones into the pipe and weld it all together. Should be interesting.

The weather was really nice today, and my girlfriend was here, so we hung some stone on the sign. She's been wanting to learn how to install the stone for some reason. She's not your average girl, thats for sure!!!

This is what we got done for the day. You can start to get an idea of the size of this thing.

Inspector,

I considered the better lights for quality, but decided that since the street lights are going on a long driveway, that efficnency was my number one concern. Maybe after I get them turned on I might regret my choice, but I only bought two of them to start, so I wont be in too deep if I change my mind.

Bobby,
Just PM when your heading this way. Hopefully I'll have the dozer running and you'll have the time to move some dirt.

My desing called for a weathervane on the top of the lights. I wanted a different one for ever light, and I might need as may as a dozen lights. I wanted them to have a wildlife theme and be similar in design.

After looking around the web, I found these online. For $20 each including shipping, I have the perfect finish for the lights.

I didn't want the directions on it or need any mounting hardware since this is all custom. It comes with a hollow down rod that my 5/16 die was able to put some threads on.

I braced the overhang with a half inch galvanized pipe 60 inches long. I cut off six inches to use as a mounting tube for the weathervane with the threads at the end.

One of my favorite ways to keep things simple is to use off the shelf pieces as much as possible.

The cap is a standard galvanized half inch that I drilled a 5/16 hole throught the center.

The washers are to stop the weathervane itself from wearing out rubbing on the cap. I was told years ago that two washers make good bearings, where one just changes the wear pattern.

I don't know this for fact, but I figure an extra washer couldn't hurt.

Since it will be a moving part, I realize that sooner or later I'll have to replace it. That's why I took advantage of the threads.

Murphy's law tells me that I better make sure it's secure, otherwise I'll be finding weathervanes all over the place.

To hold it together, I used two nuts tightened to each other with some loctite.

After trying to tighten those nuts, I came to the conclusion that they will just come apart in time. I used some JB Weld to make sure that never happens.
