The weather has me working on projects in the barn.

One of the things I've been struggling with is lighting along the drive into my place. I want to use high presure sodium lights to save energy and light as large an area as possible. I also want to lights to be part of the fence posts to simplify mowing.

I was discussing my idea and what I wanted to do with wroughtn_harv when he offered a different option that I hadn't considered. I re-did my sketches and came up with a another version inspired from Harvey's ideas. I'm not sure if he was describing this at all, but it's where I ended up.

I bought a piece of 5 inch 3/16 square tubeing 20 feet long from my local steel supplier. I was also going to buy some 4 inch pipe from them, but thought their price was kind of on the hight side.

Harvey told me about a buddy of his that could get me a better price, which he did. Half the amount!!!!!!!! Thanks Harvey.

Eddie,
Look into a Metal Halide (MH) fixture, much better light than HPS.

The pipe and tubing is heavier than I am strong, so I decided to cut them on my trailer. It was also easier to carry the chop saw to the trailer then the other way around.

A 14 inch chop saw will cut a 5 inch tubing in two cuts. The 4 inch pipe was done in one.

My chop saw wasn't exactly on 45 degrees, so I'm gonna have to fill that gap when I weld it up.

I realized my trailer is also the flattest spot around, so I welded the pipe in it.

I wanted to dress it up some, so I thought a star would look good inside the brace. The only one I could find that I liked was designed for viewing from one side. I bought an extra star to give the same appearance from both sides.

The half inch pipe welded onto the top will be to mount the weathervane when it arrives. Each lamp will be identical except for the weathervane. I'll use a different one for each one.

The square tubing is to replace the vinyl posts in my three rail fence. I'll cut out the openings for the rails to the exact same dimensions as the vinyl posts.

Looks like that'll look really nice when it's all done. I'm wanting to head out your direction one day to see all your projects in person.
