I forgot to say that the bridge spanning my creek is made form an OLD MOBIL home frame. they drug it down there and left the axels under it untill they backed it over the creek and then they drilled and attached phone polls on each frame rail just to add strenght adn someplace to attach wood bridge flooring to... it works and it was free to them back then... still working too and has been moved by flood water 3 or 4 times and each time it had to be drug back into place and fixed... I also posted some pictures on the company site here

we also had an old trailer home frame dragged and placed across our creek bed. The ends are each laying about 4-6' overlaping the shore line, and its at least a 10' drop down to the creek bed.

we have not yet put a floor onto our bridge, because I was hoping to figure out a bit more about the best way to attach it. Your idea of old phone poles is terrific! How were they attached?

Is there another method anyone could recommend for attaching a floor to our span? What type of wood would you recommend?

Do we need to anchor this any further, or will the weight of the metal keep it from shifting except under extreme water circumstances? I'm told that an overflow of this particular creek would be in the 100-yr flood probability (not likely).

we do not need ours to withstand heavy vehicle traffic, but since this connects the two "halves" of our property, we would like to use it for horses, people, and ATV-type vehicles, possibly the JD4310. Currently we have to use the road to get from our home to the pasture, and it would be fantastic to have an interior pathway.

Horse mom:

I;ll take a couple detailed photos under the bridge this weekend, but I'll try and remember ho3w it is attached

the poles I bleive are lag bolted to the frame, through drilled holes in the frame, there are land scape timbers under the frame that are attached using screws/lag bolts too this helps to stabalize it from twisting. the tops of the phone polls stick up enough above the frame so that 2x6 treated boards are screwed down to the phone poles. though some of the ends are warped becasue they left the ends extend out beyond the phone polls and didn't use good wood to attach to the ends of the 2x6's (they screwed in to the ends some 2x4s but they were pine left overs from tearing the walls out. not very strong and I think it was an after thought that was not followed up on very well.)

anyhow I'll have to get under there and take a better look and some high res photos and Ill post links for them showing a closer look.
