The Fords Chris was talking about had some very low gears with the optional transmissions. I wouldn't be surprised if they could be had that slow.
My lowest creeper gear when used at max. RPM is rated at about .20 MPH. I don't know what the ground speed would be at a responsible engine speed.

Yep.. that everett trencher tranny is a slow bugger..

My Yanmar has a creeper range but isn't as slow as 60'/hr. In the lowest range/gear with the creeper range engaged and engine at full PTO speed, tractor speed is .1mph. Idling back I guess I could get it down to about .02-.03mph but you couldn't do any work at that engine speed.

So far I've never found the need to use the creeper range even using the tiller on virgin soil. Tis fun to show someone how slow can you go and is very difficult to see the tires turning if engine is just idling.

Ever see a Unimog (one of the ag versions)? The optional 20-spd trans gets you a final drive ratio around 4000:1. This translates to about 65 feet per hour at idle. Not bad for a truck. People have been known to use them as parking brakes, as you can hardly tell the truck is moving. The intended use is snow blowers, trenchers and specialty harvesting equipment that requires slow speeds (not extreme torque).

Cools stuff.

At 60' per hour, and a contractor paying 2 or 3 employees a fair hourly rate...that does not seem to be a very efficient way to lay cable. That's pretty slowwwww.

I'll bet that 6'/hour is the minimum speed in lowest range/throttle setting.. etc.

Ever spend ALL DAY on a tobacco setter? You'll understand real quick why a S.L.O.W. speed is needed. After 8 hours of setting plants, even 60'/hr would seem to be moving right along.

creeper gears in tractrors are usually used by vegetable harvesters. They refer to them as cabbage gears. I bought a 2955 JD to use with a brush chippper/shredder on the rear. Moving in reverse at very slow speeds very efficient. Normal gears would be much too fast for implement.

If you are digging in the rock down here, 60' per hour can be a bit fast. I've run our modified Cleveland Model 110 at speeds up to 100' per hour but only digging 2' down. Go to a 4' depth and you'll run about 30' per hour. But a 22" wide trench is nice to work in in rock.:D

And digging test plot potatoes at slow speeds is nice with a 666 Hydro IH.

My DeutzFahr Agrofarm 100 has creeper gears. Use it when hooking up 3 point equipment often. It has the ball hook lift arms and can most of the time back up and hook the balls without getting out of the tractor with the creeper. Lowest gear is .1mph at idle and .2 at operating rpm.
