Ct450 smokes and shutter's

I just purchased a bobcat Ct450 with 26 hours. When I start it for the first time it blows out alot of black smoke followed by white smoke and alot of shuttering then it clears out and runs fine. Also the coil light goes out then i start it then it comes back on when its shuttering and after a few seconds it goes back out. Does this sound normal or is there a problem or somthing. Tractor also has new filters. Thanks

I own a CT 235 (70 hours) and yes the diesel blows black smoke and runs a tad rough for about 20 seconds (depends on how cold it is). And yes, your glow plug light stays on after start up for about 8 - 10 seconds and then goes out.

I don't know why the light does this but I think it's normal. I also think all diesels blow a bit of black smoke on start up (at least I hope so!)

I think your machine is probably normal.

My Ct450 has 107 hrs and has blown black & white smoke after starting ever since I've had it. I am also concerned about the knocking sound from the engine but the salesman says all of this is normal. My older tractor is a gas burner, the Bobcat is my first desiel.

Mine has 70hrs on it now and I have had it in several shops with many things done to it with no success, it starts very very rough and when in the 20's sometimes wont start right away or stalls, my 440 was way better compared to the 50hp cold blooded pig!!!

It seems to me that the 450's really start rough, especially the SST tractors bein the worst, I have no idea why as it seems neither do any of the service techs ive talked with...

I have some commerical snow contracts to take care of this winter and I can guarantee one thing if my Bobcat lets me down just one time this winter it will be down the road!!!

My 230 does the same. I find if i manually cycle the glow plug it starts WAY better. I also installed a block heater even though it sleeps inside a garage but it helps because in the winter i dont enjoy smoking up my entire garage.

I've been suspect of a bad glow plug, bad glow plug timer or a leaking injector but either way its nice to see I am not the only one.

Tinman, thanks for the video. Mine starts the same way. It seems to be normal from what I've read. It dont seem normal. Let me know if you ever find out why they start like this. thanks

I was also reading reviews where guys that have kioti DK50SE, and they say they start right up even in single digits. Something must not be right with are 450

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM and the dealer picked it up to check it out. They found a bad injector (was opening at 1000psi instead of 2000 psi and overfueling the cylinder) and are replacing it . Hopefully it will take care of it.

I have a 450 with 52 hrs. on it. It ran great until about 45 hrs. then started puffing and hard starts.

I figured it was a bad glow plug or injector, Dealer told me just to cycle the glow plugs twice before staring. Once your tractor started did it run ok, or did you still have smoke and problems?

It took a lot longer to warm up compared to when it was running well. But it does sound ok after it's warm. Dealer said that under a load it would be fine cuz the engine would be able to burn the extra fuel. He also said to change the engine oil due to the extra fuel flooding the cylinder with the bad injector.

Im curious to the injector fix, I doubt that is my problem. Mine has did it from the first day I picked it up. I have started ton's of 50hp bobcats on lots of dealers and they all start rough, esp the SST models.

I had a 40hp hydro bobcat for a year and aprox 120 hrs and it started perfect.

Tractors coming back from the shop today. They replaced a bad injector and reset the timing. They say it runs great now. Injector was on back order till the end of December but they were able to find one at another dealer.

Well let us know how it starts up. Mine still starts very hard, but i have marked the dipstick to see if there is fuel in the oil

my brand new ct235 has the same issue, hard starts knocking etc, my previous ct225(25 HP model) did not have these issues
