Comparison CTV TO HST COMPARISON

There is no arguement from me that the hrdro is a great setup, I had a tc35d and then two tc40d units. All three where EXCELLENT tractors with no repairs. If I could have gotten a hydro with a cab I would have. BUT, now that I have a CVT it is IMHO a better trans. It puts way more power to the ground than my hydro would even think of. Ya just have to learn how to use the CVT to make it opperate like it's designed to.

All kidding aside, farmall40, I hope the CVT technology does well and your new tractor works great for you. It's good to see companies trying to bring out significant innovations that improve the overall quality and performance of their products. Too much stuff these days is made cheaply and meant to be used and thrown out. But, don't get me started... Please keep us posted occasionally on how the CVT is performing.

Time will tell. I don't think I would be against owning one, I'm sure they are reliable but I would like to see other brands start putting them in CUTs. I would like to know if the oil gets hotter than HST during use.

My dealer told me today that a hydro trans is old technology and will eventually be phased out. That's why you can't get a hydro with a cab in the 40-50 hp Case/New Holland line.

If that's the case all the other manufactures are lagging well behind Case/New Holland

First thing to compare would be the brakes. As many here already know, on a HST tractor the brakes seldom get used. This is not the case with the CTV.

The way the tranny itself worked was very odd too. It's a little hard to explain, but while pushing on the gas the engine would rev but it would act as if the tranny wasn't in tune. Kind if reminded me of cruise control where there is a flat spot until it hits the "set speed" And no it was not set to cruise! No matter what gear or what speed you chose the tractor would do this. Very difficult to drive.

To make sure it wasn't the one tractor (Farmall 50). I went to another dealership 40 miles away and drove a slightly used Bommer 3045, guess what? Same exact thing. :( I realize there are many configurations that these can be set up at but I was under the impression that this was as good as it got.

Only advice is to drive one yourself. Some on here seem to be happy with theirs and that's great. I think I'll stay with the HST thank you very much. :D

if you think the HSTs wont stop fast you better think again.my brother was standing on the steps riding with my nephew.an they had 2 5 by 6 bales on the tractor.brother told nephew to stop an the tractor was in cruise.so nephew pulled the cruse lever to stop.an my bother fell off the tractor legs under the tractor.so yes they can stop super fast.

I wasn't saying HST's won't stop quickly. I'm saying you hardly need brakes with an HST machine. Depending on the way the pedals are setup simply letting off the throttle can stop you in your tracks. You hardly need them. On the CTV you will need them quite often. It's like driving a truck/car.

Unfortunate, but coming from you, that does not suprise me. The Kubota Grand L series HST+ tractors has an 'HST Response' dial that lets you adjust how sensitive the HST pedal response is in forward and reverse. You can make it stop quickly, slowly, or anywhere inbetween, depending upon what you prefer or the type of work you are doing. My dial is usually set to the slowest response setting. Philip.

well everything is set the same as the dealer had it set.an you learn real quick not to panic when something happens.i grew up driving a 6000 commander ford selecto speed.an that thing would eat your lunch if you wasnt careful.
