Comparison CTV TO HST COMPARISON

I own one CVT transmission"ed" vehicle, a Ford Freestyle. I'll admit it was a little different but easily gotten used to. It's SMOOTH. The lack of shift points and RPM drops makes for a luxurious ride.

Yes, it keeps the torque of the motor right where it's best for the driving conditions at hand. For instance, if the car is totally loaded, then I'll see an increased RPM for even constant speed cruising down the highway.

It is awesome in snow. You aren't ever trying to put down more torque than conditions allow. I have the Limited with AWD and might have actually had it kick in once or twice; otherwise, I have to punch it if I want to 'play'.

As far as the pedal thing goes, I can see a point where tractors with CVT's go with 'Drive by Wire'. Just like motorcycles and cars now, I can easily see where they put a rocker foot pedal in as just another input and let the tractors electronics carry out your 'commands'. This would eliminate the shuttle shift and probably even do away with any kind of gear lever. You might push a button to tell the transmission what kind of work you'll be doing, but nothing of a manual shifter to move.

I've been pleased with my experience and urge someone to be open minded about it and give one a try.

Try them all, then buy what you like and that fits your needs the best.

Did the MF dealer say what models are HST and 300HP? I think that dealer may be confused. MF is part of AGCO which also owns Fendt, and I think the ones that large use the Fendt CVT.

Once you get over a certain size I think HST generates too much heat. You don't see very many machines over 100 hp in HST.

A lot of dirt gets pushed by dozers with hydrostatic drive.

you know the sad thing is NH only makes what i call toy tractors.i dont care if they areCTV or HST.an they sure wont lift the big round bales on front an rear.i was a FORD/NH man till i started looking for a tractor a year ago.

what are you talking about. Nh has 45hp tractors that will lift a rounbd bale on the front and back

How mich does a round bale weigh anyway? Must be more than 2300 lbs cus that's what my farmall40 will pick up at 1500rpm.

im talking about 5 by 6 bales that weigh 1500lbs or better.i had dealer tell me their 55hp tractor would tip over carring 2 5 by 6 bales.ive towed 7000lbs an had 1500lbs on the loader for close to 9000lbs.

The brakes on the CVT don't get used at all in my application, because is stops within a few feet of letting of the pedal. I have 105 hours on my CVT and have probably only used the brakes 5 times. And that was when I was learning how to use it. Some of the members on this forum seem to be against the CVT unit, that's fine because most people don't like change. Everybody that coments on the new technology does't have seat time on both units. Since 2003 I have had 3 new hydro units and now this CVT unit, all I can say is give it some time cus it will grow on ya.

If you use the reactivity switch you don't need the brakes as much
