Cub Cadet 129 PTO problem

I'm working on a buddys cub cadet 129, I rebuilt the pto. The problem it is having is its breaking the pto fiber button. I can get it installed ok, or it seems ok, take it out and use it, go to disengage the pto and it won't disengage, the button has broke off. Any ideas what is causing this.
