Cub Cadet 2185
Hi everyone. I stopped by my local cub cadet dealer to get some stuff for the annual tune up. The lady at the parts counter was useless. I handed her the CC part numbers for my filters and she still took 15 min to find them after she looked up those numbers in two different books. I was planning on buying CC fluids as well, but she was trying to sell me Lucas synthetics. She told me to use ATF in the transmission. before I start putting anything in there I would like to know what is comparable to Cub Cadet drive system oil. My tractor is a model 2185. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

You want something like a full synthetic Mobil-1 20W 50 engine oil.

Lots and lots o posts and research already done on this very topic. A heavy-duty engine oil like Shell Rotella-T 15w40 is all you need for the 2 & 3K series transaxles. Cub Cadet Drive System Fluid Plus is a Shell product. I've got data sheets and lots of info posted on it in older threads on this board.

Hi Joel,

I'm a newbie and just want to quickly say that CC told me today that the 2185 was filled with 20W50 non synthetic at the factory.
Synthetics were introduced for the 3000 series.
Thanks

Yep, it's very possible. I've read of several late model 2K series owners who use 20w50 without issue. It would be an excellent choice for super hot climates with lots of mowing. Heat was never an issue for me with my climate and mowing. You could hold your hand forever on the differential after an hours worth of tall grass mowing on an 80degF day. They hold 6qts. Now the small 'sealed' units like the Hydrogear ZT-2800's on my Z-Force, those babies are HOT to the touch after mowing on cool days even. They hold just under 2.5qts each. 20w50 would be ideal for them.
