Here's some photos of concrete wheel weights I just built.

The form is stove pipe, with 10" carriage bolts. The wood keeps the bolts in the proper spacing for the holes in the wheels. The aluminum pipe you see was to create a space for the air valve on the wheel. They fit pretty good and give me a ton more traction. Each one used two 60 lb bags of concrete.

Pretty neat Steve! I've thought about doing something like that myself. Installation must be a bear, how do you handle that much weight? Nice looking tractor!

Steve -

Whew!!! That picture was so big I had to fly over it in an airplane to see it properly. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Hope you don't mind -- I've attached a scaled-down version for those folks who don't have a half-acre video monitor. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I still haven't gotten around to pouring my lead weights, so I was interested in what you've done. My only concern, 'cuz I do my tractorin' in a wooded environment, is having the weights protrude out beyond the width of the tires. I would surely be banging into trees with them (never mind about my driving skills).

Just wondering what your actual experience has been.

Installation wasn't too bad. Having an overhead beam and a 7:1 block & tackle sure helped.

The extra width is an issue, but just requires a little caution on my part. I haven't knocked down my fence or scraped up any cars yet but I see where it's possible.

Thanks for re-scaling. I need to remember about that.

I'm glad to see someone built weights this way. I considered it, and opted to use bar-bell weights instead, but always wondered how the cement weights would look, fit, and hold up over time. Size and installation were my biggest concerns, and you seem to have dealt with the installation and are aware of the size. Now there's someone that can answer all the questions, and probably more.

I had considered using rebar or a wire cage inside of the form to add extra strength of the finished weight. I didn't. We'll see how they hold up. Of course I saved the forms..... For the cost of 2 bags of concrete I can afford to experiment.

I also built a 3 pt weight consisting of a drawbar, plastic 25 gal trashcan and a load of concrete. That works great for big loader jobs but I need the 3 pt for the snow blade.
