Probably just a case of "daydreaming" but I've been thinking of making an upright exhaust for my JD4400 & got to looking at the exhaust system. That cast iron manifold sure looks small & restrictive, but it's layout & placement would make custom header fabrication (3 into 1) a simple matter. I'm thinking 1.5" primary pipes into a 2.25" collecter exiting through the side cover with a good muffler, all stainless, for long life & easy hood access. Having made a couple sets of street car headers (a monumental pain in the patoot) & a few sets of drag car headers (door-slammers are not so hard, dragsters are downright simple), I figure fab time should only be a couple hours (vs. 20+ hours for my Dart, see attachments) & I should be able to increase power on the 36 horse Yanmar 5-10% & make it slightly quieter at the same time.

Am I crazy for wanting to incorporate my "hotrodding ways" with my tractor, or am I just crazy?

You could be on the verge of a new business. Around here most of the Ag guys run chrome straight pipes on the Ag tractors and TerraGators. I put Deere's "Vertical Exhaust Kit" on my 4310 but it's black, not chrome, and it just changes the pipe downstream from the muffler exit.
