You're welcome to come bale it but I doubt your livestock will like Bahaia as much as what you are growing. I suspect they won't eat it. I know you can't sell it around here. But it makes a pretty good driving range.
Mushroom hay

I'm going to be contrary :p and only replying because I got this in my email.

I would let it grow unless I wanted to prevent shrub and tree growth, for example if you think that field will be useful to someone for crops. The world needs more wild spaces.

If I wanted to keep it trim and usable I would rent out the lot to a farmer. Not sure what it's like around you but if I had a 10 acre lot sitting and doing nothing I'd have farmers beating on my door wanting to rent it for some kind of crops if it was of any use for any kind of crops.

My brother in law lives next door has several large fields (former tobacco fields) that he was borrowing my tractor and 5 foot bush hog to mow a couple times a year. Probably 12 or so acres. Now a local farmer keeps up the fields and raises hay. Not sure if or how much he pays to use the fields. The message here why do it yourself when a local farmer may need the acreage to grow more hay as income producing crop. I would be looking for another farmer with haying equipment who would keep up the fields.

I have a flail (917L) as well and you're right, it misses a lot of the tall stuff. It gets flattened by the leading edge then caught under the roller. It's too short front to back for stuff much over 12" high. When we let part go, I borrow a 5' brush hog in the Spring to get it to a reasonable height. About 3.5 hours for 10 acres with the flail.

I kind of agree on finding someone else to hay it. If you don't want that or can't find anyone get a used bush hog, It is usually really easy to find them for pretty cheap and they rarely wear out. If the field were mine it would be a motocross track with a swimming hole in the middle, let the dirt bikes keep the grass down.

Another viewpoint on leasing it out.

We did that here for a couple years. The guy brought a bulldozer in, knocked down some fences that "were in his way" AND (father in law passed away during this time) he knocked down the tree on top of the (highest hill) in the county where his ashes were spread.

Used fertilizers (I'm told) that nobody wanted around lest they leach into either our well system or the lake. (I personally have difficult time believing this BUT, I'm not a farmer)

When he left, he left behind about 30 large round bales of hay that nobody would let me get rid of because "he might come back for them"....and now, today, 6-7 years later, these bales have small trees growing in them, he's not getting them and the hay is rotting a bit making it much more difficult for me to move them without them flattening and near impossible to even GIVE them away.

So he created more issues/mess here than anyone foresaw and as far as I'm concerned, if he were to be found on the property, I'd be content showing him the most direct path off of it.

So it wasn't a Class "A" experience.

Fenced? (sorry I might have missed that) Someone might be able to run some grazing animals?

We lived in Arkansas for a little while when my wife and I were newlyweds and there was a older man that had about 20 acres that he mowed with a 21" push mower. He started early each morning and would work till dark. By the end of the week he just started over. Everyone said he just loves to mow. I felt bad for him. 😂

Maybe he was wanting a new wife?
