CUT Thinks it\'s a Dozer

I got a heck of a deal on some fill dirt so I got to take a break from the minibarn this evening and played a little. My son took this picture and that's yours truly working on a farmer-wanna-be tan. I had six loads of about 10 yards each dumped in an area we want to have as a driveway extension. Pretty easy working it as long as I didn't take too big a bite, after all it's not really a dozer. In this picture I'm just starting out by connecting all the piles to form a path /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And here's my near entry into the safety forum. I knew this fill was soft but was doing OK by staying centered on the piles. This time I got a little too far to the side and into the soft edges. Tried backing out but that made it want to slide down more so I took a break from my break, and went back to work on the barn for a while. When my wife got back from the grocery she eased me out with the truck.

Tiltmeter said 20 degrees. My rear end said let's stop and think about this /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree with you Rob, my seat of the pants tilt meter was tweeking just looking at that picture. Nice looking rig! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Rob, Nothing like fresh dirt to move /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I sometimes get accused of dreaming up projects just to use the tractor /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Hello RobS,

I was ready to tell you about my episode with loose soil in you first post/picture, then I moved to your /// tilted JD.

Happy it stayed upright. I was moving dirt and backed onto the loose stuff, if it had been a little more tilt a meter would not have helped it happened so fast. Got the shovel, (no not that), and started diging out under the high wheel and she finally leveled out enough to get back "on track". Whew!

I attempted to lighten you tilted photo. Here it is hope you don't mind.

I had to get some help from another TBN er to get it small enough to post.

Rob,

Next time you get like that use your loader bucket to push you out. Just curl the bucket all the back and work it so that you push the tractor backwards.

That dirt looks pretty loose... he might not have had enough stability to push out with the bucket?

Hey, thanks for the "enlightenment" Gotrocks! Someday I'll figure out how to tweak the photos before I post them (although they always look fine on my PC before posting).

Richard, I thought about the FEL trick for self extraction but my truck was sitting right there and my tow strap is always coiled at the ready under the seat.

I had a chance to test my newly built lane this weekend and I'm happy to report it works just fine. More work to do but at least it's functional /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
