I got my kit in the mail today from Speedway. Are there videos around showing how to go about this? The instructions don't have me feeling über confident.

Most of you seem to be grooving the tire instead of siping? Why - easier?

Update: here's one.

I would find an old junk tire and practice a bit.

My gang uses a tire cutter a LOT on 4x4 rigs.

I used it on my previous tractor's rear R4s. Noticed a marked improvement on snow and especially on hard packed dirt. Sorry I don't have better pics.

Some of the guys I work with race dirt track cars. One lent me his Ideal groover (said he won't have any use for it till April). I did the rears first with a #4, then switched to a #3 for the front. Doing the rears required moving the tractor several times because the fenders blocked access.

The #3 blade had just finished heating up when Wifey said we needed to head into town to catch the bank before noon. I checked the time and it was 11:18 as I started on the front tires. At 11:42 the front two tires were done and I pulled the groover's plug.

The Ideal groover tolerates two-handed pushing well. I did have two places where it went a little too fast and missed the turn trying to follow the shape of a lug. See the top of the front tire photo.
