Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Cutting / Groving / Siping R-4 for snow

   / Cutting / Groving / Siping R-4 for snow #301
Back around post#244 I put pictures up and told of my snow plowing with cut tires. After using the tractor around the yard this summer, I wan't to let everyone know of the possible side effects of cut tires in mud and gravel. First if you operate in mud, the cuts will fill with mud and then if you then go down the driveway fast you will leave strips of mud flying that look like the rubber strips you cut out of the tires. Also left alot of mud strips in the garage when you go to use the tractor the next time. Second in the gravel areas I drive thru the cuts always seem to collect small stones in the cuts, again not a big deal until you go road speed and the little rocks come flying out. Not trying to knock cutting tires just reporting back on my experience with the cut tires is all.
I am actually worried the clay/mud crap I get into would be permanently embedded unless subjected to a pressure wash which would be a pain.

Nah, it comes out on its own all the time. As soon as it's dry. The tires flex enough to make it come out.

Yeah I suppose and my luck it would be all over my driveway that I finally cleaned off.

yep, likely so. It came off on the floor of my barn I parked in all the time.. Of course a broom took care of it pretty quick. I didn't do the Kioti, I bought an expensive set of chains for it.

Did the same... put chains down on my list for Xmas last year... did all the research and gave my wife the detail info to get the exact ones I wanted. And of course that took care of the snow last year... didn't have enough to get the chains out of the bag. So I guess I conclude the chains work really well! I am in favor of the siping but hard to justify a one-time use tool as I don't have any tractor owning friends nearby... just you guys on TBN
Apologies for getting emotional.

Apologies for getting emotional.

I bought the tool, and so far I have only discovered a couple of alternate uses for it- regrooving my clogs (croc knock-offs), and my old sneakers.

I'm sure other ideas will pop up eventually.

No worries about the emotion, I got verklempt just reading your post...

You might be able to use it to make home made gaskets out of rubber sheets. May need another tip for that though

Another good idea!

May be this is another thread- alternate uses for otherwise expensive otherwise one-use tools...

Great idea! Always need more ammo to justify the new tool to the better half!
