Cutting rubber horse stall mats

We just replaced mats in our barn. I bought the mats from TSC. I used my big utility knife with a new blade and a straight edge. Put a pallet on the front end loader and laid the mats on that so I could get it at a comfortable height to cut. Let the side you are cutting hang off the edge so you can bend it down just a bit and the knife will cut through in 3 or 4 strokes.

When we did our basement I use a very sharp utility knife with silicone spray and a skill saw for the long cuts. The key to using a skill saw is to get a blade a very coarse one where the tooth is wider than the blade by a good bit this prevents the saw blade from creating friction and jumping out of the cut. I also kept a good coating of silicone on the blade its self.

If you have a Fein multi master or similar tool they make a blade for that.

Multitool may work better than i think but if it binds on the rubber it doesn't take much to bun up their low amperage motors. If going power tool option recip saw is probably best bet.

I would make a 2x4 frame that stands up so you can hang the mats from it so there's nothing below the mat allowing the saw to go completely through the mat.

I was thinking of just throwing a pallet on top of some saw horses and using that. The mat can hang over the edge to let the cut bend, but also have plenty of room "below" for the blade to not hit anything.

That's easy enough. Should work fine

Sawzall, zero effort other then putting 2x4 other to prop it up off ground. As fast as you can cut.

Just put it on the floor, and cut. Ya sucks kneeling, but you are kneeling on a mat. Fast.

Every man should have one, they are useful for alot of things. I finally moved up 18V. Never use a cord again.

Ok so we cut mats for one stall. Things I learned

1. Use a silver sharpie to mark your cut lines. Shows up great. No chance of smudging it off. Don't want them on the final product, fine just mark to take the line off when you cut.

2. Carpet knife will work, but wow what a pain. We used soapy water as a lubricant. Did not want WD40 or similar on the mats for when the horses are in the stalls.

3. Circular saw will require to much moving of the mat.

4. Did not get down to trying sawzall yet. That will be Monday's task. I suspect that will be the answer.

I just clamped a 2x4 at each end. No marking. I used it as guide for saw, wouldn't work with a knife.

You own a sawzall and still did it by hand???
