Sawzall worked like a charm. Sprayed the line w soapy water and the lubrication made it go like butter.

I don't think you needed to do anything. They cut metal. No cutting oil.

It smelled a little bit, like burnt rubber. Did it smell?

Tangent, some of the new fancy sawzall blades sure cut. Though I just used an old cheap one. I save the good ones for cutting stuff like 4x4 and such or hard metal.

I used whatever random blade I had.

Using the soapy water as lubricant made a significant difference. I thought at first as well it was not needed. It would cut through metal and a 2x4. Started without using the lubricant. It was totally useful.

The blade that came with the saw. I bought some other blades that were like 5 teeth per inch, but never needed them. I am new to living in the country so don't have a ton of power tools. So I bought a 7.5 amp sawzall (Porter Cable) from Lowes. The blade that came with the saw worked just fine. If I was cutting all the way down the 6 foot side of the mat there would be a nice rubber smell near the end of the cut. So I would stop half way through and let things cool off a bit.
