Hello, I have a brand new tractor and an antique tractor that I will in the near future participate in parades or displaying at the local county fair. My tractor club fees include coverage while at the fair or in a parade, but not the in-transit time, either driving on the road or trailering. My current homeowners policy does cover liability while in transit, but not tractor damage. To cover that from my current insurance would be about $300/year to cover the new tractor of $25,000. The 8N would be covered too. Another company would cover the new tractor for $100 but not an antique. I'm going to ask a few of the guys in the club what they have but wanted to hear what some of you have. Thank you.

Your current insurance about $300/year to cover the new tractor of $25,000 and the 8N seems reasonable. If the 8N is restored to like new, have the policy for cost replacement of an 8N in the same type of condition.

Have you checked your auto policy?

I don't have comprehensive insurance on anything I own. However, I would think it would cover anything inside of or attached to a vehicle that was covered... at least I would hope.

If an accident is caused by another driver, then they would be liable to make it right.

My recollection of insuring a tractor off your premises was something called an Inland Marine policy as it was common for boats I guess. Clifford makes a good point about something being towed by your vehicle which is worth asking about.

When I was storing mine elsewhere I had an Inland Marine policy on it. Now I do not. Technically if something happened in the public road in front of my house that is "off premises" and not covered, but that is extraordinarily unlikely given the dead end I live on and minimal time out in the road in front of my driveway.

I think your auto insurance would cover it if you carry it in the bed of your pickup:

Depends in some instances the insurance company or depends on the state to have coverage on things being towed.

well, wow, I never would have guessed a farmall cub? would fit. This is the way I've been transporting my two smaller tractor, my F150 bed is 6.5 feet, tail gate up. I have some good questions now from everyone to pose to my club and insurance agent. I have pulled a camper trailer in the past and pretty sure I had separate insurance on it.

My insurance company (Allstate) said that anything being towed by a covered vehicle is also covered (to the limits of the policy).

It’s been awhile since I towed to shows…

My auto liability extends to my trailer but it doesn’t cover damage to my trailer or theft and same for anything on the trailer.

For those items I had to declare the pay premiums for the stated values of my $6500 trailer and $6500 for my restored Ford Jubilee tractor.

My parade Jubilee policy also covers liability on public and private property provided I’m not being paid and tractor is not being used for tractor work…

I think the coverage terms used are public exhibition and pleasure…

So if I was plowing offsite and damaged an underground utility or using a rotary cutter and started a fire I would not be covered with my parade policy which is part of my antique car policy…

A tractor in a parade is still a vehicle out in public so I wanted the coverage.

I’m not a farmer or contractor so no underlying business or farm policy as a backstop.

It also makes it simple to say no when I’m ask to do tractor work off property… I’m not covered.
