I've replaced/overhauled engines in cars, trucks and tractors before, many times, but that looks really overwhelming to me right now. Age makes one look at things differently.

Good luck in your project.

Several times, I have stepped back and looked at it, thinking "This is going to be impossible". Once I got started, I just take a page at a time from the manual and it really isn't bad. Obviously I have a ways to go, but I'm happy to be where I am so far.

You'll get it done before you know it and you will be very familiar with the tractor after that. Then whatever you have to fix next will be a piece of cake.

I'd be making several detailed, close up, videos of everything in stages. It could be very helpful when trying to route some of the lines, wires, and hoses during assembly.

The last car engine I replaced was in a 90's Toyota. It was daunting to look at before I got going.

I took masking tape and marked each electrical and rubber connection point with a numbered piece of tape, so i would know what connected to what. There were dozens of connections. It made the job much easier. Getting the sideways mounted engine back in and attached to the tranny was tough.

When I split and overhauled my Ferguson TO30, and then my son's TO30, it was a piece of cake except for the weight of everything. There were very few wires and no hoses except for the radiator.... back when stuff ran good without all this new craap on it.

Looking at my Mahindra, I think it would be doable but I wouldn't be looking forward to it.

Aaron you might consider replacing the propeller shaft seal as long as you are splitting the beast. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/313098-grand-l4740-hydraulic-fluid-leak-2.html#post3784621 Post #14 looks easy once it's apart. Regards, Fred

The previous owner had that seal done at the time of trade-in. I had some drips coming from the drain on the clutch housing, but I don't know if it was coming from the massive crack in the suction hose for the hydraulic pump. I had fluid all over the place once I took the right loader mount off. I think I will Replace it just for the piece of mind though.

That's exactly what I was thinking looking at the pictures. I have faith in him. He'll get this done and done right!!!!

Looking at your back tires, if you plan to roll the back half of the tractor forward or backward when taking it apart or putting it back together, I would remove the tire chains. The last thing you need while trying to thread the two halves back together is to have the back end bump up an inch or two to go over a cross chain.

Also (if you don't mind) can you post a couple of pictures of how the loader valve mounts (and where it comes out from underneath)? I added a loader valve to our tractor, but it mounts out front and it might work better in back.

Thanks

Not sure how the OP will break the tractor. Normally the rear half sits still. Front section is moved.
