Rules prohibiting firearms make no sense to me. Anyone intent on breaking the law will ignore the rules anyway.

Exactly right!
Rules are for those who abide by them. Once again another example of the lack of common sense today.

Many states, carrying in prohibited places (except stuff covered by federal law) is nothing more than a trespassing charge (if you refuse to leave). Many who are intent on protecting themselves will carry regardless of a sticker on a door and simply ensure their weapon is never seen; which is why many places have stickers on the door. Most stores that have stickers preventing firearms have had issues with someone coming in acting like an arse with either open carry or poorly concealed weapons. Having a sticker on the door gives them the option to tell the arse to leave or be charged with trespassing. The sticker isn't there for those that quietly go in, conduct their business, and leave unnoticed (which is how we all should be regardless of if we carry or not).

Not generally illegal to carry into a bank. Of course it varies state to state, but I know for sure it is legal in Ohio and Kentucky unless to bank is posted (most do not).
According to my CCW instructor, carrying in an Arkansas bank is also legal unless posted signage forbidding it.

Today we live in a very sick society where people think that they can do whatever they want to anyone. I can vouch for that on several occasions that have occurred to me. The most recent was a neighbor that threatened me with bodily harm outside a town meeting. I reported him to the police. The police filed a suit in Court against him. Time went by and I called to see when the Court date was and what was going in with the case. The officer told me the case was dropped due to lack of evidence and the fact that the perp said that I had started it. My neighbor told the police that I was the one who threatened him. Nothing was done by the police to confirm my story. I asked them to question the people that were in the room from the attendance list, they never did. I knew somebody had to have heard him yelling at me. I then took it upon myself to do the investigation and from the list of attendees at the town meeting I found two witnesses that confirmed my story. I went back to the police and tried to re-open the case. They said that the Court refuses to hear the case because it already went before a Court Magistrate. The really sad part is that I was never informed of the Court Magistrate Hearing. In the end I told the woman at the Court that this man will never end tormenting me. She said that this case will be on file for 7 years should he ever do anything to anyone again, especially me. Justice is never served when dealing with the Justice System. I have a CCW

Dont turn on a light in the house - it makes you visible. Turn on an exterior light so that they are visible and have know idea where you might be watching them from. Just a thought.

And don't follow my example. Middle of night I heard what I thought was a door shutting when there shouldn't be anyone moving. I dove out of bed, picked up the pistol and came to my senses standing in the middle of the living room, stark naked with EVERY light I had passed lit up behind me. Nobody there but if there had of been they probably would have died laughing.

My only point with the 22LR article is getting into a debate with what bullet works best for "home defense" is a lot like debating what caliber works best. Something is better than nothing, and I don't care what the caliber or bullet, I don't want to be shot at with anything.

Yep, good points. I prefer a weapon that will put a person on the ground no matter where they got hit. A 22 won't do it. However, preferences are one thing, finances another. My 'freind is a 22 mag.

That's how I got my middle stepson to move out  He was supposed to be gone for the weekend. Dog was acting up and wanting to go outside in the middle of the night. Strolled through the house stark naked, opened up the back door. Ran straight into him and one of his buddies :D Said "Hi" asked them a few questions, then went back to bed.

Son informed us he was moving out a couple days later :D If I knew that, I would have done that along time ago :D

I have a timer light in the house - should probably have a few on different schedules.

I think you could increase the effectiveness even more if it turned on a light inside the house and waited 30 seconds and then turned on the outside light.

Ammowise - hornady critical duty 9mm- the FBI rated stuff. Critical defense is just below and perhaps also a good choice. I also have some federal bulldog I think it is, defense ammo. Have fired a few rounds in my guns to know where they impact and how they feel.

and today i carried in a costco...
