I posted this on the attachments form, but I will post it here as well since this seems to be in between.

Does anyone on here have a Danuser F8 and the down force kit? If so, how did you hook up the hydraulics since it is a one way hydraulic cylinder? Danuser says that one hose has to go to the tank and that throws me a bit. I have read in the archives that you would literally put the unpressurised hose in the fill cap to return the fluid? That seems messy. BTW, this is on a JD 5065E. Any suggestions or experience?

Do you have more than 1 rear remote? Does one of the 2 rear remotes have the float function? If the answer is yes to both of those questions, then plug the return line into the set that has the float function, put that valve into float and you then have your return line. Be sure that the valve can't pop out of the float function, you can end up in big trouble if it does.

Plug the pressure hose into the other set and you are in business. If no is the answer to the float function valve, then you need to find a return to tank plug-port, install a return line with a QD and you would be all set.

You can use a DA valve to control a SA cyl by using the B work port on the base end, and running the A work port to a return line.

You can also plug the A port and the B work port will do the extend and retract. cyl will operate, and on the retract mode, the relief valve will activate as long as the cyl is retracting.

There is no reason that you could not use the fill cap if adapted for the return hose. Many people have done something like this,.

The old owners manual says, "Coupler I has a detented float position when lever is moved in the fully forward direction." That is the description of my remotes. Is that the float position you are talking about?

JJ,

I think I follow you, but "DA" "SA" and so on are throwing somewhat. I am a bit slow at times to picking up jargon. Thanks.

DA stands for Double Action cyl, two way pressure

SA stands for Single Action cyl, one way pressure.

Yes, but do you have 2 sets of rear remotes? :confused3:

I just have one pair of remotes, and that quote I posted from the manual describes my set--or am I mis-reading it?

No, that sounds right. While it would be possible to operate your down force kit with what you have, I advise against it. You really need to have the 2 sets of remotes that I described or a dedicated return line fitting for the return line. If not, there is a very good chance that you will end up with a bent boom. My thinking at this point is to find a plug that returns to the tank and plumb in a return line with a QD on it.

Good luck

Just tee into any return line with the OUT on the log splitter.

This comes from the manual itself regarding the SA cylinder. Your advice still stand after reading this? Also, the down force kit has two ports on it rather than one. I guess I could plug it with the plug it came with, but I am searching for suggestions. Also, I will likely call Danuser on Monday and sound them out for suggestions as well. As you might expect, the tractor has a FEL and I don't think there are any spare return ports to plug into at this time--could be wrong however.

Return port, hose, whatever, add a tee and put the log splitter return line there.

Whatever, the valve used with the SA cyl , the other work port should either be plugged or the work port hose should go to any return hose or port.

Which advice? :confused3: Yes what you have will physically work, no I would not depend on the single rear remote to operate this down force kit. Do you understand how the down force kit works? That raising the PHD boom is what retracts the ram on the down force cylinder. That when the digging is very tough, you keep the lever pulled for a continual flow into the cylinder thus putting a constant force on the piston with all the excess flow going through the bi-pass and returning into the tank. When you raise the boom, the ram retracts, hydraulic fluid is sent through the bypass and back into the tank.

I operate my PHD using 2 rear remote valves. One for the pressure source and the other as a return source with the lever bungeed in the float position. This has worked very well for me for many years.

Fair enough. I will drop by Deere on Monday and let them splice in a T or add a port for the return flow. I would rather do that than put have a loose hose running into the fill cap. Thanks for the help.

The Down Force Kit for a F8 is a one-way acting cylinder. At the bottom of the gray box is a port that goes to the back tractor remote. The second port by the short U shaped hose goes to the return or sump port of the tractor hydraulics. When you want to use the down force kit activate the hydraulics and lower the 3pt. hitch. Any time you want to raise the 3pt hitch you must turn off the hydraulics and the oil will go through the short hose and back into your oil reservoir. If you don't turn them off when you raise the 3pt, the cylinder will fight with the 3pt and something could bend or break. If that does not make sense call Danuser and ask for Glenn Danuser.

Thanks for the explanation.

Since most remotes are DA, how do you recommend to run the work port hoses to control the down pressure cyl?

Work port B is normally used for a SA cyl.

If all you have are DA remotes, let's say that moving the lever forward will activate the down force kit. When you want to raise the 3pt hitch, just simply return the lever back to neutral. Same way will work with SA also. Let me know if you need any further help. Glenn Danuser.

Is there a relief valve in the little grey block?

In neutral the work ports are blocked.
