i wish the time would stay one way or the other. its seems like it takes about 6 weeks for me to get use to the time every time it changes. where i live, in the winter it gets dark around 5 pm, thats way to early. in the summer , in about another month it will not get dark till around 9 pm, thats way to late for me. i wish their was a happy meidan, dusk around 7:30 or so everyday.

Me, too, don't care which one they use; just pick one and stay with it. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The WSJ has had a couple of articles that hit on DST.

A few weeks ago there was an article about how power companies are seeing earlier use of power starting around 5:00am. This is about an hour earlier than what has been historically been seen. It also has nothing to do with DST. The power demand is getting earlier all year round.

The other article was about DST, who wants it, who benefits, and does it save energy. Most studies according to the article show no savings of energy. I really don't see how it could. I turn on the lights in the house day or night so DST does not change my energy usage one way or the other. The companies that make money are the ones envolved in sports, golf/tennis ball makers, owners of golf/tennis clubs, etc.

There was an English Dude just prior to WWI that wanted to implement DST so people could enjoy sporting activities with the extra day but his idea was shot down by Parliment. Then during WWI the Germans implemented DST and the English followed.

Just leave the time alone as far as I'm concerned. It does not help anyone I have ever known. I used to stand outside waiting for a bus. What is the big deal? I used to cross a major four lane road before the crossing guard showed up for work and I did it in no/low light in the 5th and 6th grade. I see very few kids walking or riding a bike to school anymore so this is really a non issue in the areas I have lived in.

This reason alone should make people realize that more daylight in the evenings is better. I don't care if the sports industry makes more money, but imagine the health benefits of playing outside versus sitting in front of the TV. The extra hour of daylight in the spring and fall will equate to an extra hour of exercise, which I think studies have shown, we ALL need.

I live in Whitley county (northeastern Indiana) so we ended up on Eastern time. My wife and I think it will be great to have the extra hour of light, she gets off of work at 6:00 p.m.,and didn't have much time to do anything outside before.

Seems to me that the kids were getting on the buses in the dark before we switched.

I think there was a typo in your post. You did mean 4 miles not the 1/4 mile. At least thats what my dad;s generation always claimed. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just leave the time alone. I don't care which way it falls. Just leave it alone. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The rational for DST has always been to save energy. And that seems to be bunk. If we want to have more daylight in the evening I'm all for it. Just lets set the clock once and leave it alone. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I need sleep more than I need exercise.

Growing up I guess I thought the idea behind this was the kids wouldn't be standing out for the bus in the dark in the am.

Why not split the difference & go 1/2 hour each way & leave it that way forever. Can't be done ! It would make too much sense & the government would never go along with it !
