Remember a lot of that comes from the correct arc length. Once you find the correct arc length, and heat settings getting the stack of dimes will be easy. ;)

Any advise on arc length? I have the arc force set on 0. I think about 15 deg rod angle.

That's something I'd have to show you in person! And I just don't have the words to describe it to you.
I have the best luck with Hobart's 335 A 6011, and ESAB's 10P 6010. How hot are you running? I like about 75-amps. If you run too hot, the ripples won't stand out. Imagine running a big spoon in a bowl of cake batter, and turning the batter over with the spoon. Try to get the molten metal to act like cake batter.

I am running 3/32 rods at about 70-75 amps. Should I hold a fairly tight arc? I think I am holding the tip of the rod about 1/8 away from the piece. I am using air liquide brand 6011, they seem to run quite well. I will buy 6010 next time.

I don't hardly ever run 3/32 inch 60XX. I think you're way too hot! I think you need to be down around 45 to 50-amps. Yes 1/8-inch arc length sounds about right, but not being there to see the results, it's really hard to say.

Ok I will try it again with much less amperage. The box say 75 amp on it, but I think that is for ac, seeing as 75 amps on my tombstone ran them well.

Personally I think it's going to be hard to get the stack of dimes look with 3/32, or at least hard to see them anyway, or maybe that's just me.

This is what you're shooting for.

Well I only have about 1# of them left, when I run out, I will get 1/8 6010.
