Dead Deer Exposed

The law of having to keep it partially exposed, if present, actually makes sense to me and seems to have valid reasoning (even though I don't totally agree).

If it existed (which I hope it doesn't), a law that says they have to be hidden, most likely just to keep from offending someone, is the one that smacks of making a law just out of "political correctness". Those are the ones that throw me into lawful protest mode /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Push the limits without breaking the law.

But then there's the guy who cuts the head off and proudly mounts it to the grill of his pickup. I have always enjoyed the peek-a-boo view of the rack of horns sticking up above the bedrail, or the drive home with your blood crusted arm sitting on the window sill.

<font color="blue">the fake gun is only indirectly linked and technically has nothing to do with it. </font>

Then why do they call it armed robbery when technically you weren't armed? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

<Sigh> Poking me with a big stick aren't you Moss? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You know the answer to that you're just being funny. It is still the result of brandishing the fake weapon that is to blame not the fake weapon. Change the location and circumstances of the fake weapon and no crime has been committed therefore it is not the fake weapon itself that is the crime.

In the postings above, it is insinuated that showing a dead animal carcass in public IS IN FACT the crime which is ludicrous to me. If someone would have a beef /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif about a dead animal in my truck, then just don't look... they just flat shouldn't be passing laws about stuff like that.

PS.. I realize that Deerefan does not know which way or the other and was just asking a question for his own knowledge... so I am posting this as a hypothetical "what if it really was true" type of thing.

I would fully enjoy riding past the lawmaker responsible for passing such a goofy local law with my fake deer carcass in the back of my truck. I enjoy rubbing it in peoples faces when the pass laws or try to do things they have no right doing... just like I keep right on walking when Wal-Mart or BJ's or Sam's Clubs treat you like a criminal and ask for receipts as you leave. It is always people trying to exercise power over you that they don't have.

"just like I keep right on walking when Wal-Mart or BJ's or Sam's Clubs treat you like a criminal and ask for receipts as you leave"

This is a peeve of mine too, though I stop since I know they are just doing as they are told. Tell me, do they ever chase you down? I have always wondered what they would do. I thought about the troop of employees coming out and barricading my car or something.

BJ's turned me in for shoplifting once. The doorway attendant followed me out to the truck and wrote down my license number. A policeman called me a few days later and started off very first thing by saying that he had already did an investigation and found that no crime had been committed and that he was "performing a service for BJ's" by calling me and informing me of their policy. My first response to him was, "if you know that no crime was committed then what are you doing wasting tax dollars by even being involved in it.

Even the cop tried the old "yea... you were within your rights, but if you did nothing wrong then why not let them see the receipt." Talk about missing the point.... I responded, "If I did nothing wrong then I have the right to be left alone and not treated like a criminal."

He at one point got a bit huffy and said that if he had been present that he would have detained me. I then mentioned that he could detain me and do a quick investigation to determine if a crime had even been committed, but even he, as a policeman, could not compel me to show my receipt until it was known a crime had been committed and he received a warrant. He reluctantly agreed but mentioned that I would be crazy to take it that far. I said "I'm not crazy for being aware of my rights and standing up for them."

I have heard that before about covering your deer. I believe its mostly done for the tree huggers or in this case animal lovers. Here in NY you do not have to cover your deer. It can be in the back of your pickup, ATV, trailer, etc. It just has to be tagged. If you have a hunting / game booklet, this is covered under transporting. I have seen covered deer here, I think they did it so the animal rights people don't follow you home and picket your front yard.

So did that BJ's policy include banning you from the store? I've always wondered if they would try to grab your arm or something similar. Sorry, off topic.

We see a lot of coyote tails on antennaes out here too.

Surprisingly no. Both mine and my wifes cards still work. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

But I'm relatively sure that no information got back to BJ's on who I was. I threatened the cop before getting off the phone that since no crime had been committed any information he gave back to BJ's based on my license number was a breach of my privacy and would be treated as such and that I fully expected my privacy to be protected or there would be consquences.

BJ's never got me stopped to look at my BJ's card as I left and the cop couldn't legally give them any information about me.

Chalk up one to a knowledge of ones rights. I just wished enough people would follow suit that companies would stop that practice of slowly eroding customers rights and tricking them into giving up their rights in the name of stopping shoplifting.
