Price Check Decision time B26

   / Decision time B26 #21
I am in the market for a B21, would like to have a B26 but for the difference in specs vs price I cant see it. Maybe there is something not evident in the specs. Since I have 2 guys here one with a B21 and other with a B26 Perhaps you guys can enlighten me. According to the specs on TractorData the tires are the same size, the wheel base is only 1.8 larger on B26, 168 lbs. heavier, Oil flow about the same as best I can tell, so why are used B26's listed in the mid $20K when I can buy a B21 for $12k. (when I can find one that is)

Gary,

You are right to a large degree there arent "considerable" differences in the two machines but here is what I see..

Weight - 4000 Lbs each - no difference
Lift Capacity B21 926Lbs vs B26 1300Lbs - big difference
B21 Fixed 56" HD Bucket vs B26 QA 60" Bucket (Plus other attachments/forks etc)
Digging with BH - B21 3700Lbs B26 4300Lbs breakout (I think)
Digging Depth B21 7.5' vs 8'+ with B26
Curved boom on B26 vs straight boom on B21 (around rocks and stuff curved is better)
BH Thumb - Mechanical on B21 "add on" B26 Built in Thumb
Pump Capacity - Two Pumps on B21 5 and 7 GPM - B26 says 11 GPM..
HP - 21 vs 26

Personally its the Hyd Thumb, QA bucket and attachments, and lift capacity.

I might have a B21 for sale, so stay tuned - or talk to MissingsTexas about his B26..

I will have to keep both of you guys in mind when I get ready to buy and see how this is all shaking out. Right now the B21 in Hot Springs which is about 20 miles from me is looking pretty good. It is an older model with1700 hours but looks like it is in good shape (from photos) but final examination might blow that deal in the scrapper.

I got a b26 and I was looking at all kinds of tractors for some time. but the b26 stood right out from all the others even the b21. Mostly due to the stronger breakout and lifting forces one has to remember that to lift and dig more its gotta be stronger built also to withstand the greater forces. Just cause you dont see it on paper then it dont mean its not there. I for onoe LOVE my B26 its out performed the 30hp john deere I tryed out by a landslide. The b21 I was looking at just didnt have the comfert I was looking for. If your gonna be on a the machine alot, you gotta find things are within easy reach at all times or you gonna be really tired and sore at the end of the day. Remember little things CAN make a big even huge difference. i know if i have the b21 and not the b26 i woudl have have a lot harder time moving things in the yard like the car hoist that weighed in at 1,875lbs the b26 took it off the truck and carried it in to the shop with no problem even without the filled rear tires and concidering the Lift Capacity in the book is only 1,100lbs on paper. we uesd out b26 for building our new shop so we could store it even. like diggin the foundation and lifing the 22ft long steel I beam up to its resting spot 10ft off the floor. (Had to use the backhoe for that one and the b21 I know couldnt lift that up that high) eight way both are great machines but remember paper specs are not always right and even so a small difference can make ALL the difference in the world at the end of the day.

4000+lbs of breakout force pulled this stump out and the lifting capacity was strong enough to lift it out of the hole with the curved boom being able to reach over it

quick attach from bucket to forks that was so handy to have when your changing from bucket to forks about 6 times a day as your backfilling the foundation with the bucket and then have to change to forks so you can lift lumber or shingles or anything heavy up to the 2nd floor of the shop

the big stack of shingles on the one pallet was the max of the lift for the tractor still impressive for a little tractor

with what ever you pick be it the b21 or the b26 your gonna have a good strong tractor. As you can see I dont baby the b26 it had to earn its keep and it still does. The b26 was for me the better choice as the stronger loader and backhoe were much needed. The biggest question you need to ask your self is what do you need the tractor to do for you?

I really cant think of anything right now that I would need the backhoe to do other than dig trenches and dig out rocks. I have plenty of horsepower when it comes to tractors and really am looking for something that is maneuverable for the small jobs. It seems I am always finding something that needs digging or planted and shovel and posthole digger is getting a bit old as am I. Basket ball sized and larger rocks seem to grow overnight and start heading for my lawnmower blade so those are a constant battle to keep abated which will be the majority of use early on. Digging them out with a FEL destroys a lot of lawn. I have lots of drainage ditches that I need to fix up also (once I get the hang of operation-never used one before so this could get interesting)
