Doing anything for the first time is always more difficult. Well maybe except for one thing but that was a long long time ago.

Now that's funny right there!!

Boy I really muddied up the waters today. Stopped in Arizona and looked over, sat on and drove the JD 1025 then the LS xj2025 and a Ytm t234. All 25hp and all with a backhoe. They were all nice tractors and all priced within $600 of each other. I'm sure the was haggle room on each. I liked the little JD but those other brands are just plain more tractor for the money. And let's not forget the Branson is on par with each for a little less. There were things about the LS I really liked and likewise the 234 also. I liked the way the hoe detached better on the LS but the 234 had smoother hydraulics, seemed better balanced and I liked the loader control better. Same engine in both tractors and they ran smoother and idle at a much lower rpm than did the Deere. Also on both you could raise and curl up the bucket at the same time but you could not the Deere. Just when I think I got it all figured out I learn something else and find out I don't.

Took me around 6 months before I decided. Lots of choices and imo most manufacturers are making excellent equipment. The more you look the harder it gets to decide lol. Good Luck. You'll know when you find the one that fits what you need best.

Lets add more ,do you have a Yanmar dealer close to you? I know they have a plant somewhere in Ga. They will be close to the same tractor as the Deere, but at a lower price.

We have Yanmar here and I think they are as good as any other brand but in this area they don't hold their value at all. It's hard to even give one away if you need to. This is farm country and I'm talking real farms over 3000 acres type farm. The big colors are green and orange but heavy on green. Other brands do ok on resale but not Yanmar. I don't know why other than brand prejudice that goes back years.

I think Deere counts on that a lot and that's why you get more tractor for the money with other brands. When I looked they wanted much more for much less tractor. The dealer support didn't look to be all that great either. Kubota seems to have pretty much the same attitude but not quite as bad. This is much of the reason why I just bought myself a red tractor. However out this way they all seem to hold their value. Much more so than any car. That's the main reason I bought a new tractor instead of used one. No sense in paying practically new prices for used and not get a new machine with the warranty completely in tact and get exactly what I wanted into the bargain.

Greetings Cpenn481,

I noticed you talked primarily about kubota and j.d. even though you mentioned you have Massey nearby. Depending on the scut or small cut market items you are bouncing between . . I'd suggest you at least consider the advantages the Massey's offer that are unique.

Here's a one . . two . . combination to consider. Kubota and Massey . . . then small town dealer with big time skills and price.

Massey tractors . . . In the scut line up is the gc1700 series of 4 units 2 that have backhoes and 2 that don't. A unique feature of Massey tlb lineup in scut sizing is they come with BOTH a 3 pt. hitch and backhoe and you don't have to take the 3 pt. off to use the hoe. I compared kubota extensively in the scut size with Masdey and my gc1715 and I found my fel could lift more (rated at 870 lbs at the pins) and my 3 pt could lift 1190 lbs. I like Kubota but for me . . Massey offered more namebrand manufacturer festures and warranty for less money. Everyone has their own opinions :) And I wanted more room in the seat and floor for winter coats, controls access and physical comfort.

On the small and mid size cut size MAssey has the 1700 series (not to be confusedvwith the gc1700 series) in two categories an E series (economy) and the regular series . . these include a couple frame sizes too. Bunches of models in that whole 1700 series going from 23/4 hp to 54 + hp. The E units are available with out a mid pto as it reduces price but all else is sized the same. . . . You get the drift

Both the scut and cut series of units have a 5 year warranty. If you want to finance but get all the discounts too . . Agco being a finance company has multiple choices beyond, that allows you to classify as a cash price yet low interest options. Additionally an excellent insurance option is available.

I could go on and on but you can check it out without me boring you with details.

Now . . How about a big dealer to consider? How about a good dealer to consider? How about a dealer with good pricing? How about all three? It seems hard to say this with you being in Georgia where a bunch of Massey items come from. . but you might want to consider a tiny town in Wisconsin called Sauk City. Your trucking abilities make the difference.

If you can make thevefgort to contact Barlows . . this might bevas good or better of an opportunity.

This small city houses the biggest dealer I've evet been in . . 5 acres under roof plus plenty outside too. Just the parts and service department have just short of 50 employees I was told just over a week ago. At the same time I heard recently a customer drove from North Carolina to pick up a fully loaded RTV because of price and benefits.

Its called Mc Farlane's and . . oh by the way . . they have been a kubota full line dealer for a long time too as well as Massey. Ask for Brad or Dan in the Sales department and tell em you heard about them from me. They are big time sized and small town friendly.

What's it hurt to give em a call or check them out on the web? Massey choices and Kubota choices and you said you have a Massey dealer near you already. First . . maybe consider Massey whrn considering Kubota . . . second . . . get a competitive price.

P.S. Mc Farlane's started in the early 1900s and makes harrows, steel girders and beams etc.. in another facility separate from thefacility Im talking about at the dealership building. And I think I counted 9 or 10 loading dock doors when I was there recently so handling semi trucks is certainly not an issue. First consider Massey as while considering Kubota . . then this dealer could be a choice to get either.
