Be sure to give Kioti and LS a look, and Mahindra too.

Deere's compacts are made by Yanmar. So anything coming out of that location in GA was probably crated overseas and just passes through the plant (they normally ship to the dealer crated too). I think you have to get into a 4 series before they are no longer Yanmar, but there are probably more subtleties to the mix than that. I definitely know a bunch of 3 series and all 2 series are Yanmar. Not sure about 1 series (but they are sub-compacts anyhow).

Same goes for Kubota also -- up to a certain size, most of their compacts come crated from Japan and just pass through US facilities enroute to the dealer. The loaders are made in Kubota's US plants, but crated separately. The dealer is the one who assembles them.

I would not write off Kubota -- there is a reason they have over 50% of the compact market. Try working with a local dealer and see what they can offer.

I doubt you could have done that much better down south. The price may have been better but the shipping is astronomical. I know because I'm one of the guys Kubota, JD and New Holland calls to ship new tractors and it cost big money for me to come up there. Personally I don't go north of Baltimore for less than 3 grand. Doesn't matter if only one unit or as many as will fit it cost a minimum of that for me to cross that line. I do go North for less but not North east. Couple that with higher property cost and taxes and I can easily see why NE dealers have to get more for what they sale.

Luckily for me,( in the Northeast) if I want to, I can range quite far with my 3/4T 4x4 and my 14K equipment trailer, for a whole lot less than $3000.
I consider that I could drive round trip to Florida for less than half that $3000.
I am retired, so my time is free!

Not real thrilled about Kubota anyway. I haul new ones out of the Georgia factory fairly regular and when I deliver there are always nuts and bolts laying on the trailer and usually at least one puddle of hydraulic fluid. If I see where it came from I always point it out to the dealer but they seldom seem to care.

I also haul for JD. They have a huge plant about 20 miles from my home where the build mostly compacts. I never have stuff on the trailer from them.

While I have been very happy with the two new Kubotas I have purchased, this is an interesting perspective. When I was a winery executive, if I had solid information on any wine or packaging problem I got on it, and STAYED on it until the problem was corrected at the winery and customers compensated, if appropriate.

I would be interested in knowing the size of the Deere's you mention. I believe all the Deere/Yanmars are assembled in Mexico, so the tractors you are hauling would probably be of larger size.

Any particular reason why? I ask because I know me and I can invent all kinds of justifications for something I want but can get by without.
16,900 - 6,000 ( what a aftermarket bh will probable cost you) leaves 10,900 for the tractor and loader. You say you will need the bh later, so it is available right now where it might not be available at this price later. That is the reason I would grab it now. Strike while the iron is hot.
Now don't get me wrong here, although I personally don't have much good to say about JD (I got burned once, but that may have been the operator [not me]), but they do make good stuff.

My advice is worth exactly what you paid for it. :)

The Grovetown Ga plant ( think Augusta ) assembles compact and utility tractors. Mostly less than 50hp. The 1025/1026 is made there but I'm sure it isn't the only place they do that. Some may be built in Mexico as well. Everything I haul from there is small. Some in fact fit on the trailer side by side. Kubota on the other hand builds all sizes in Jefferson Ga. ( outside Atlanta ). JD also builds mowers/yard tractors at a plant in Tennessee. They build larger golf course type equipment near Kansas City. And of course they build really big stuff in Moline.

Some of this is true some is not. On the Kubota's I haul they come fully assembled and ready to go from the plant. The loaders are built there the rest of the parts come from overseas. No dealer assembly required except on some smaller models. Some are crated and shipped with the wheels and tires in seperate crates. On the JD's I haul the engines come from Yanmar but they don't build the whole tractor like they do for other models. I know front axles and transmission section are built near me but a lot of other parts are shipped in from other places including overseas. It's an interesting process to watch. JD will actually give you a tour of the plant. At least that one. I don't know if they do that everywhere or not. Kubota won't let you go past the loading area but you can see a lot of different functions going on from there.

If I lived in your area I would do the same thing. Luckily for the dealers and customers that high shipping cost usually gets spread out over multiple units and that helps out. We are paid by the manufacture and not the dealer as well but I'm sure that cost is still passed trough down to the ultimate end user.

Spoke to the JD dealer yesterday. I liked him a lot but the tractor I called about was gone and he only had new units available. I like the green but I can't justify the price. Another call to Barlow in Ky has gone without return. I'm not writing off Kubota but I am writing off that dealer. I will be back home this weekend but of course it's Easter weekend and being in the Bible Belt many dealers won't be open Friday or Saturday. Taking next week off from the road and plan to visit the local Mahindra, Kubota, LS and Kioti dealers. I think they are all good tractors. The brand/dealer giving me the most tractor for my money within my budget will be the winner. Hopefully I will have the deal done next week and at a minimum have it ordered and on the way. You guys have all been very helpful in this process. Back last August I bought new trucks for my small company and spent 10 times the money on each one than we are talking about spending here and didn't go through the mental anguish I have put myself through on this decision. I would have never thought deciding what tractor to buy for my home would have been so difficult.

Doing anything for the first time is always more difficult. Well maybe except for one thing but that was a long long time ago.
