Deck over trailer for tractors

Center of gravity does make a big difference in stability. With a 3 ton load of kerbstones stacked flat over the floor of my deckover, i dont even notice, even though i'm way beyond my legal towing capacity. But loading a 2.5 ton agricultural dumptrailer on tall airplane wheels, it gets tricky, its way more prone to sway.

However, the height difference between a deckover on low profile tires, and a bed between wheels trailer on tall narrow tires, is about six inches. The virtues of dropsides and flat floor, far exceed the marginal loss in stability, IMHO

Personally, I don't see the concern about the COG issue. If the COG stays within the wheels of the trailer (meaning somewhere within the length of the axle), it won't tip over. I personally have seen a trailer's left wheel come off the ground by a foot during a maneuver by the vehicle in front of me, and then came back down. As far as the affects of the wind, it's a vector equation for all you mathematicians out there, and as long as the resultant vector stays within the length of the axle, it's not tipping over.

Its not tipping over, but the lateral forces do cause body roll, which in turn causes sway. A low center of gravity does reduce sway, but those 6inches of difference between deck over, and deck between, dont do much in stability, yet they do make the ramp angle smaller.
