deck over trailer

Hi folks, gravelman from NH Im buying a deckover trailer with a 3 foot beaver tail Do not move my tractor all that often but haul other things, thus the deckover. Is there a way to convert the 3 foot beaver tail into flat carrying capacity similar to the rest of the trailer?? Even some type of bar across the back to keep a level deck. Im sure someone has figured out a way. thanks.

Why not buy one that the ramps fold up to level out the dove tail or make some that will.

I agree, if you haven't bought it yet then get one that the ramps fold over and extend the deck. Some models come with mega ramps that cover the full width, filling in the center space between them.

I have a 4 foot beaver tail, they make some like above that the ramps fold flat, some have a pop up beaver tail. If needed I was just going to build a ramp out of wood to make it flat. My beaver tail is wood so it’s easy to attach. In order for the ramps to fold flat you need a 5 foot beaver tail.

Man those things suck. No support for the rear of the trailer. They are heavy, I always pinch skin in them somehow. Some ppl love them but I sure don't! I have a moritz trailer that the entire tail of the trailer cranks up flat and locks in position.

Get a trailer with some fork pockets in the side of the trailer. That way you can stick the forks in the pockets, release the SSQA and back the tractor away leaving the forks stuck in the trailer for transport. Saves a lot of deck space and all you have to do is throw a strap across them or whatever to keep them from walking out during travel.

Why do you say it's too late? Sound's like the perfect solution,just do a little welding to convert the sliding ramps to fold up ramps.

If he has a 3 foot beaver tail those are going to be some short ramps.

OK, this may be a dumb question, but how do you get your long tractor and implements on to those folded up ramps if the tractor is already on the trailer?

pull up past the ramps then back up. Thats why you don't buy the shortest trailer possible.

I'm happy with my new Diamond C power tilt deck over. No ramps or fenders to deal with at all. Adds a few bucks & isn't as low profile. It replaced a way to short 16' gravity tilting deck. Was looking at a 22' gravity tilting deck but ended up with a power tilt deck over. The gravity tilt loaded a tractor better, but sucked for loading anything else. The tilt deck over ends up with a noticably steeper deck (2-3x maybe) when tilted, but I've had no issues loading tractor or impliments yet. Will have to see how it goes when it's wet. Loading anything from the sides is trivial with no side rails or fenders in the way.

well-thought question. You'd be happiest when you have stake pockets so you can lock the ramps upright to the stakes when loading long wheeled vehicles. And use the fold-back ramps folded fully back when loading pallets or hay bales.

Another thing we have going on in Holland are liftable dovetails, with a very short ramp. If your vehicle has air suspension you can use the compressed air to lift the tail end with a set of airbags. It cures all disadvantages of either style.
