We used a 50/50 mixture of raw linseed oil and turpentine for decking and doing our wooden gutters once a year. In fact they still do the latter now. The problem with the raw linseed oil is that it takes months for it to sink in and dry even with it being cut with the turps, but it sure did an excellent job.

How bout something like oil based fence paint applied real heavy?

I replaced the wood planks on my trailer, and used this on them before installing. It soaked in fairly rapidly. The lumber looks great after 2 years of desert life.

That stuff is made wit linseed oil. Maybe just linseed oil is what I need.
