Eddie: Technically, NYS can assess property taxes on standing timber even though it might be years away from harvest. Oh, then it's taxed again when you cut it.
I'm sitting here wondering if I'm the victem of a joke that you guys are all in on and just waiting for somebody like me to make a comment so you can hit me with the punchline.
Tax on a deerstand?
While I'm not descrediting anybodies building skills, deer stands are not what I'd call a real building. What do they tax you on? Improvement to the land? Living space? Strorage building? Mini Barn? This can't be real.
If there is a tax on it, is there a code on how to build them? or a legal definition of what a deer blind is and why it's taxed? What about a fort or treehouse for kids?
How does the taxing authority even know you have a deer blind? Arial pictures?
I just don't get it.

From what I understand, some sheds here are not taxed if it not bigger then 8X8. But this varys in different towns. Also if the shed is "portable" it cannot be taxed and can be placed real close to property line. My neighbor has a 8X12 shed on a 8X12 trailer and its parked less then 10 ft from my other neighbors property. He doesnt keep the title regs current but its enough to keep it from being taxed.
