Okay don't shoot but I think we are going to shoot for a smaller series.

I talked to the group and we all went up to Kubota to look at a M7060. It's a little larger than what most of the folks are comfortable or used to operating.
I know they would eventually get used to it but that's not always the best option when you have rotational volunteers.

We want to be able to run a modern square baler, MoCo, Disc, plow, seeder, and lift large rounds when necessary. Would an MX58 get the job done here?
The dealer was pretty adamant that the MX wasn't the right choice but I need a little guidance here. Should I be checking Mahindra as well?
Deere doesn't have a great option at this price point as a 4055 or 4066M is a premium model.

Thanks for all the advice.

@GuidoSarducci-

If you're looking for something smaller and perhaps simpler to operate have you considered the Yanmar YT359? Not sure if it's possible to see one in person but from a size point of view it would be smaller than than the 75HP machines you previously mentioned.

A premium tractor for sure; and perhaps out of your price range. Perhaps they'd be willing to work with you on price considering the nature of your needs. I was very interested but it just didn't have the HP/weight for what I needed.

holy cow what a bummer after all the research guido ..........I say you get different volunteers that can handle what you get LOL -

Questions for you........I see tasks that you have but I don't recall reading about how many acres you are working on and when you say modern square baler are you talking small or the newer larger square bales - next you mention helping out moms/raising food, how big is this garden area and is that what you are disking/plowing/seeding? what are you seeding ? could you get that accomplished with a rear mount tiller?

my biggest concern is this, if you have folks not familiar with running a larger tractor what are they going to do when they need to STOP something that is behind them or are moving a large bale that is possibly going to compromise the stability of a tractor with a driver that is apprehensive, unfamiliar, or lacks discretion.

I would much rather have something a little over engineered if you will for the user that is lacking experience. ie, a tractor they cant turn over no matter what they pick up with it - I know that's a little over the top but I think you get my drift.

I am not familiar with the weights/sizes/capabilities of these machines so someone else could provide better advice but I have always went bigger rather than smaller but I realize I am older school in my thoughts.

I have been in my share of pucker situations over the years and I consider myself cautious and am glad I had more tractor than what I was doing ;-)

So the nonprofit produces the food and donates it to women’s shelters, school lunch programs, charities etc..

Our small group would use the tractor for production and it’s only a few folks that are moderately experienced but mostly with smaller equipment.

At this point we have about 30 acres but that can increase rapidly depending on leased land being available throughout the year. In our Kansas operation we went from 16 to 82 in just under 2 years.

It was lot of ground to hay and multiple 5 acre garden plots to handle for a compact. We started with a 3038E and eventually moved to using a 5065E.

I don’t want to be in the situation of having to rent or borrow equipment at this location because it’s a new operation and we haven’t developed any local relationships.

However if a MX58 will do the job and we don’t need a bigger series then I would rather go that route.

ok so I see you have a 5065E - were you not happy with it and wanting to try something different? lease up? maybe I missed that part earlier?

the MX58 I would agree with the dealer/salesman, its sheer weight difference would concern me when haying - maybe I am wrong, got info from tractordata so grain of salt possibly 2wd info on mx showing 3734 lbs and the deere 5065E at 5500 operating weight.

presuming you are talking 4wd.

maybe an m6060 would be a better comp for the 5065E ?

I don't know much about these mid sized units but there doesn't seem to be a lot on paper different in size that would be that overwhelming from a 5065e to a M7060 - I suppose the easiest transition would be to another 5065e?

We started the organization in Kansas and that operation is using a 5065E. We expanded into Eastern TN due to acquiring an additional farm and the ability to directly contribute to the community.

That’s our current project and why we need another tractor. I started comparing the 2 units from Kubota and Deere when Deere changed the new 2018’s.

I’m not unhappy with the performance of the 5065 just always like to look at other options and get the best value for the dollar.

Buying a 5065 is completely off the radar because the pricing is DRAMATICALLY more expensive than the first one. We were quoted 15k more than we paid in 2016. I’m not sure if that’s due to the model changes or what but I’m not paying 45k for a 65hp open station utility tractor.

What I’ve noticed purchasing machinery is that the manufacturer really sets the tone for pricing. One year they could have national discounts of over 10k and the next it might be hardly anything.

I wish the big 3 would stick with figures that are set in stone but appropriate for what the models worth. Now you have a situation where used 2016’s with 200 hours are going for 26k and new ones are almost 50k.

If that’s truly the pricing than guys are losing half the value of the tractor in 2 years and 200 hours. Now obviously that isn’t the case and the vast majority of buyers are national accounts, big producers, and leases who get significant discounts (27% or more). It just sucks that the little guy usually ends up paying full freight.

I've seen JD 5065e's with cab and loader around $43-44k

If I had a lot of people that were going to be using it.

I'd be looking at a yanmar YT3 series. They're incredibly user friendly. Kubota of Knoxville now sells them too, so getting it serviced shouldn't be an issue.

I kinda liked the looks of the yanmar when looking with a friend - you might be able to get a cab for that kind of $$$

Wow, 7 pages of comments and nobody mentions Mahindra? They have tractors all the way to 125 hp and their compacts don't use DPF either.
