;) No way would i pay almost twice as much for a garden tractor as i did for my sub compact.:D
I would buy the JD2305 sub compact before i'd spend that kind of money on an x700 garden tractor.

1* a 4WD 4WS machine like that, with the attachments that one can get for it, isn't matched by anyone else's product that I'm aware of.
2*It'll store in a small space,
3* plow deep snow in confined spaces,
4*till gardens
5*What I like about it is 4WS AND 4WD, and
6*has no roll bar to beat up my trees and shrubs.
7*What I don't like (besides the price) is that with 4WS a loader isn't an option.
8*I'm still waiting on the 4WS/4WD that can take a loader....
9*Perhaps I should just give up and start looking at the articulated machines. Gittyup

1*Hay we're talkin 13000 and 14000 here without any attachments, add a loader and tiller and a couple of other goodies to it and what are we lookin at 30 or 35 grand!
2*So does my BX1500.
3*My BX 1500 does that.
4*No it won't because you can't get the tiller for the AWS x series.
Not a problem for my bx 1500 I ordered a tiller with it.
5*I don't see AWS as all that great.
I also don't like it because you can't put a FEL or a Tiller on the tractor.
6*I'd rather beat up a few trees than have the tractor without a ROPS beat me up in a roll over.
If you want to live dangerously without a ROPS you Can buy a simplicity legacy without the ROPS.
You don't have to go green.
7*Not a problem with my BX1500.
8*Maybe your waiting on a garden tractor that will do a sub compacts task.
Ya might have a long wait.
9* or look at the right class of tractor for the jobs.

I have a real tractor: Kioti CK25 TLB for the real tractor work. So, I'm not looking to replace it. But I wouldn't mow with it, and it can't fit into tight spaces at all. I have and love AWS. I put my 425 AWs up against a friends 445 without AWS (same basic tractor, just that the 445 is fuel injected). No comparison: out plowed, out manuevered, out mowed it big time. My weedeater and pushmower are in semi-retirement. And I think I'd have to be on a near vertical slope to turn it over. I regularly mow sidways on about 30 degree slope. The 445 would lose traction and slide back down the same hill. Mine hase never come off the ground. No ropes needed here, not for that machine, at least not one without a loader. If you haven't used AWS extensively, then you just don't know. It is an awesome capability. I just wish one didn't have to give up some features to have it. Now that doesn't mean I will be running out to buy an x700. My 14 year old 425 AWS that I've worked the dickens out of still runs and looks perfect. But, if it ever dies or I get rich, I'll be looking hard for a 4WD AWS.

Last winter, a neighbor got a new BX and came down to plow and play with his machine. My little 425 whipped around plowing snow in all directions (including sidways) while he was making long trips to the end of the drive or doing a three-point to turn around. The guy was truely amazed at how fast the 425 could plow and clean up a driveway.

The dealer that delivered the CK25 remarked that I wouldn't be using the Deere to plow snow anymore. I quickly corrected him. I could plow with the Kioti, but the 425 is way faster around the house. Now, on a really long, wide country lane, I'd be on the CK. It is in tight spots that the AWS excels at plowing. It's on slopes and when there are alot of obstacles to mow around that it excels when mowing. For my yard and my uses, an AWS garden tractor without ropes is by far THE best choice.

1*Why would it be any harder to flip an AWS than it would be to flip the same tractor with out AWS?
That just don't make sense to me!
2*Like a tiller attachment. That just wouldn't get it for me since the primary task of my BX1500 is tilling and grading.
Also a 3 point hitch and rear PTO which means I couldn't use rear attachments such as a box scraper, rear blade ,brush hog or any other rear mounted attachments on the X700 like i can on my BX1500.
3*I'd have a hard time trusting my life to AWS over a Rops.
Are you implying that AWS is a valid substitute for a ROPS?
4*Why would 4 wheel steer have more traction than 2 wheel steer?

The same way I just did with you.
This is about the difference between garden tractors and Sub-Compacts.
It's not about orange VS green so there was no need for you to get your liver in a quiver!

You just don't know till you've used one. I'm not speaking from a position of ignorant conjecture. I know from experience what it will do. I know because I have used them side by side with both green and orange "comparables", and the AWS out did them both. It's about turning radius, angle of applied force relative to travel direction, weight, width to length ratio, center of gravity, etc.

I am completely safe. There is no life or death issue here. At least not for my machine; that's just a ridiculous suggestion. A ROPS has its place, but not on my 425. Just not needed. I haven't seen the x700s, but this is probably true here too, especially if not using a loader. John Deere would have put a ROPS on these machines if there was even a slight chance of rollover under normal conditions.

If JD didn't think there was a place for such machines, why would they make them? No one else makes anything like them. So, there not doing it to keep up with the competition. They are making them because they know there are people who will want them. They aren't for every person's needs. But some would prefer them over a BX-like option.

As long as I live on this property, I will not have a ROPS on a mower. I have 40+ trees and many shrubs that I cherish and will not expose them to a ROPS. And I'll guarantee you, an AWS will mow circles around any non AWS garden tractor when there are many obstacles to mow around, no matter what the color of the tractor. Same is true for many snow plowing situations.

My opinion of the BX and the JD2000 series: suped up garden tractors that want to be a utility tractor. They do both pretty good, but neither outstandingly.
