Tractor News Deere shifting production

Therein lies the problem don't you think? It doesn't really matter if 2 voted for it.
When you said "I don't feel sorry for a single one of them."
That casts every voter in the same light.
Is that fair?

The unions have been striking Deere since I was a kid in the 1940's. Just hurts the employee (and family) in the end, next the customers, and last a little to the company. But the Union likes to flex their weak muscles by controlling the members to do what they say.
The winners, if any, are the Union bosses.
Had a father and two brothers that worked for Deere, and they were treated quite well while working with benefits and pensions.
Didn't get rich from the job, but had the funds to invest wisely and better themselves in other ways rather than piss it away at the bar, race track, casino, etc.

They have a third tentative agreement and will vote Wednesday the 17th.

Third times a charm.

Yes. They put themselves in the situation of having their future in someone else's hands. Spoke to a JD employee friend of mine yesterday and what the "rank and file" is about to experience is the moving of all farm equipment production overseas. He was telling me that JD has a plant in Brazil that is identical to the one here and makes the identical combines they do here. They are about to double or triple the size of that facility and likely just close the one here. This is what they will do across the board.

"According to a UAW news release, the two sides reached an agreement that includes "modest modifications" over the most recent rejected contract offer."

What does that mean? A counteroffer to JD?
It means Deere's statement 2 weeks ago of "this is the best and final offer" wasn't true.

They just made a third offer for a new contract.

Lots of posturing but expected…

On the other hand it provides cover for possible actions to follow.

The risk is disgruntled workforce with ongoing issues…

Maybe the strike is giving Deere cover to reduce here and expand elsewhere?
That's what I am thinking. The take it or leave it mentality tells me they have other plans up their sleeves. From a cost standpoint it would be Christmas come early if they could get rid of all the union employees and start over with non union help.

If I was a JD fanboi, I wouldn't buy a new JD for quite some time. You will have disgruntled workers assembling your JD (from foreign sourced components).

The latest proposal was ratified. The Waterloo employees still voted it down, but the others made up the difference.
