Delphi's Bankruptcy

Re: Delphi\'s Bankruptcy

Chris,

I understand there is a big difference between large and small. But even in the large such as Delphi or Northwest Airlines like I mentioned, it takes CEO's to develope new plans, create new business strategies or there would be no work. Every business has to have the top dog should I say to keep it running. And the people that have jobs because of it should be happy and thankful. I have an employee that comes in at least once a week and says to me "Mr Murphy, I want to thank you for the job and the diligence you have to keep me working." This guy is a guy that lost his job once, and he went through some pretty tough times. So when I hear of people complaining about what management makes I get frustrated. As I said earlier, if they don't like what management makes they have an alternative, become one.

In fact, while most here on TBN are at home, I am here at work, both my wife and me working. It's Sunday evening.

Re: Delphi\'s Bankruptcy

You are the owner, the CEO's I am talking about are not. Most can take a pay cut and not miss it, they are financially well off enough with what they have done in the past.......homes paid for etc. Those that will lose big time are the workers, and 45K aint that much today.

As an owner I applaud you for trying all you can, but the CEO's of Delphi dont "own" it. Ask one of them to work for less..........and as far as his salary, I doubt it!

Re: Delphi\'s Bankruptcy

Lets talk hourly, even with all the extra hours. I still doubt that they would do this for even what the "workers" make. Face it, working in a hot or cold environment is harder than having someone bring you your coffee, or take a letter, or go to a business lunch............even after hours.

Re: Delphi\'s Bankruptcy

Base salary, what he keeps his 6 figure or even 5 figure bonus and benefits, and whatever else. Face this too, he could not do what the workers do, he aint got what it takes.

The only place C level executives do this is in soap operas or I Love Lucy re-runs.

Re: Delphi\'s Bankruptcy

CEO's dont make the plans, they take the credit. I dont buy that one bit. They also risk NOTHING when going out on a limb, unlike you do. They dont own it, you do. You sound like a great person to work for, dedicated to those that work for you. I used to work for a guy like that.........painted machines and scrubbed floors for 2 years......at my production pay.........cause they did not believe in layoffs. Big business came in bought them out and 10 years later........everyone is gone. The shirts would come in, hire more shirts, fire workers, change benefits....always less......and they got very rich on us.

They hired a new manager in our plant........his claim to fame, he had caused 4 previous places to go broke!@!!!!! But, he wore nice clothes. The idiot could not and did not know squat about our business yet he was going to tell us how to do it.

Re: Delphi\'s Bankruptcy

'C level' means CEO, CIO, CFO, etc.

Just because the executives who work in your company are, in your opinion, losers, that doesn't mean all are. But it does beg the question why you want to work for a company being led by such incompetent people. If they're as bad as you state, you won't have a job long because the company will go out of business.

Re: Delphi\'s Bankruptcy

Thcri,

Having worked happily at a company the size of yours for many years, and now at the enormous monster that bought it, I can tell you there is no comparison. IMHO, small to medium sized companies were the backbone of what our economy used to be. The managers in really big companies mostly have their heads up their butts. Yeah, long hours, failed marriages, but that does not mean those hours were spent doing things that make sense. I am one now, and I simply cannot adjust to mindless stupidity inherent in a large company. The outrageous overheads - money that does nothing to improve the product or service. Unfathomable amounts of time and money spent talking to ourselves, always focused inward.

I think the majority of the time those executives spend is in flying around the globe, dealing with internal political maneuvers, and looking at and preparing PowerPoints and P&L statements, most of it full of bogus data that no one really thinks about anyway. Just make sure the graphs with unlabeled axis have lines that run from the lower left to the upper right - then we can all nod our heads and agree that it is good, but please add 5% to your sales projections. And line 12 of your P&L statement must be no more than 15% of line 5 - what is it you do at this facility? Sorry, gotta cut this meeting short cause I have a call coming in on my cell phone. The quality of work and decision making you get working like this is mostly worthless, and it shows.

Sorry, but I have no respect for the overpaid crony capitalists that run most of these big megaliths. Delphi should cut 2/3 of their management and break up into separate, smaller divisions.

Also, I note that he only got around to health care costs at the end. If we had a national health care system, Delphi would probably not be bankrupt, and I would probably be starting my own company.
