Product Description
Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 10W-30 and 15W-40 are extra high performance diesel engine oils that help extend engine life in the most severe on- and off-highway applications. The advanced chemistry of these products delivers exceptional performance in both modern, high-output, low-emission engines including those with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), as well as older engines operating on low or higher sulfur fuel. As a result, these products exceed the API CI-4 service category and JASO DH-1 industry specifications.

Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 10W-30 and 15W-40 are recommended for use in a wide range of heavy duty applications and operating environments found in the trucking, mining, construction, quarrying, and agricultural industries. These products will provide outstanding protection in the most demanding diesel engines of Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Mack, Mercedes Benz, Navistar, Volvo, and others. Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 10W-30 and 15W-40 also meet the latest API specifications for gasoline engines and mixed fleets.

The outstanding performance reserve of Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 10W-30 and 15W-40 is the result of extensive cooperative development work with major OEMs and advanced additive chemistry with patented Trimer technology. These enhancements assure excellent control of oil thickening due to soot buildup and exposure to higher temperatures and provide outstanding resistance to oxidation, corrosion, wear, and high temperature deposits.

Features & Benefits
Modern high output, low emission diesel engines generate higher levels of soot and run at higher temperatures than older, naturally aspirated engines, which significantly increases the demands on engine lubricants. Current engine designs reduce oil consumption, resulting in less fresh oil makeup to replenish depleted additives. Top piston rings are located higher on the piston bringing the oil film closer to the combustion chamber where higher temperatures increase thermal stress on the lubricant. Higher fuel injector pressure and retarded timing improve exhaust emission control, but also increase engine temperatures and increase soot loads, including those engines operating with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). The key benefits include:

Garrabo, the ad copy sounds great but why do you like Delvac so much? Have you seen proof of these claims in your equipment?
I tend to judge a lubricant by 3 properties;

1. its ability to control engine wear
2. how clean it keeps an engines internals
3. how much time between top-offs

Motorcycle/dirtbike/small engine ownership often involves repairing and rebuilding, and a previous owners sense of economy becomes apparent when you pull an engine apart. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Good lubrication is a good investment /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif so again, why do you like Delvac?
Thanks.

Are you sure it is "that good"? I like Amsoil a lot but I do not write up posts that long. Not knocking the post but I have only been in diesels since 1996 and I have seen some bad tests results using delvac. It is the worst? No but I have seen better.

How adoes the TBN hold up? How about OXD, Nit Levels? What are the base # for P, Zn, Ca & Mg?

I would add some oil anayaisis to suport that it is that "great". Compare it too lets say, Fleetguard, Amsoil, Royal Purple, Cummins P Blue to name a few.

Features
Advantages and Potential Benefits
Outstanding thermal and oxidation stability Reduced low temperature sludge build-up and high temperature deposits
Extended TBN reserves Improved soot handling and extended drain intervals
Stay-in-grade shear stability Reduced oil consumption and wear protection
Maintains viscosity in severe, high temperature service
Excellent low temperature pumpability Easier engine start-up and reduced wear
Superb resistance to corrosion Longer life of critical wear surfaces
Component compatibility Longer gasket and seal life
Meets demanding specifications of key OEMs and latest API gasoline service category One engine oil for mixed fleet operations
.As well as what I pasted, US express did a test using Delvac.
Used it for 400 thousand miles, drained then the engine was broken down. origional hone marks on cylinder wall still present.

Again your post is more a "cut and paste" from a mobil site. Nice reading if anything. I have seen some tests and the oil peformed bad at high temps.

I wouldn't be surprised if Delvac 1 is also a 100% PAO based oil. The extra cleaning from Delvac 1 is probably a result of a higher level of alkaline detergent additives.

Soot or sludge does contribute to thickening, but only when you get above 2%-3%. Then there "extended drain intervals" is out the door since you can't do EDI using it.

The HTHS levels look ok. Amsoil and Redline are in the high 4's. Lower numbers have more stress from heat and are not as shear stable. Is this one good , yes but it is not great.

Since you do not post the numbers I asked, here you go. Mobil will NOT have these on any other their website! Take a look at some levels here. They are not that great.

Aluminum 1ppm
Chromium 0ppm
Iron 2ppm

Lastly, I do not buy the 400K miles tests and you see this and that. Like amsoil etc. Most trucks come with by-pass filtration installed as OEM. Sure you see the marks etc but at what cost? Factor in the makup oil and the filters you needed to buy and boy, pretty expensive. Also do not like the small amount of ash in the oil.

Is a good oil yes, but not "great".

More about oil than I need to know. There are abbreviations in the posts that mean nothing to me, and probably 75% of the others that will read this thread. My philosophy, change oil and filter at scheduled intervals and your engine will be happy, and your pocket book also... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

very true junkman, but if you are using a diesel oil I personally like to know what it is composed of.

So far Delvac sucks with Barium (Ba) (very low), Phosphorus (P) is again low along with Zinc(Zn), & Calcium (Ca) & Magnesium (Mg).

Too bad Delvac TBN drops like a rock over short drains. Never mind that TBN does not drop as a linear function. It is more exponential. But some think it is a great oil...sure compared to what? I have no idea.

If you are doing short drain you will not have a problem. Just figured the original post was a commercial on Tractor by net for a few. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I know what barium is.... had some for breakfast last week. I also know what TBN is, but I have no idea of what Delvac TBN is. I just finished reading another post that the poster used some 4 letter abbreviation to refer to something, and although he knows what it means, I don't and I believe that a lot of others don't also. Nothing personal, but when you use abbreviations such as TBN, it would help if at least the first time you use it in a post, that you give the information necessary to understand what it means. Example: TBN (Tractor By Net).
Thanks.... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

when talking about oils TBN is Total Base Number. good oils are about 11 to 13. When the oils turn more acidic (fighting soot, etc) the TBN goes down and NOX and OXD goes up.

Nothing personal taking. Everything is abbreviations now-a-days for whatever reason....
