There was a great discussion on driveway sensors.
Try this <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=rural&Number=21176&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1#Post21176>link</A>

Has anyone tried the Innotek Driveway Guardian from Cabela's. At $179.00 it seems reasonable for what it claims...

I went through a couple of driveway alarms. My house is 800 feet from the front gate, and I wanted to know when someone entered the property. I purchased a 1000 foot wireless motion sensor. Well, the 1000 feet is line of sight, which means trees and house can stop the signal. I was able to get the sensor to work 500 feet from my house, but not any further. The metal/brick inside the house coupled with the trees between the receiver and the gate limited the 1000 foot wireless sensor to 500 feet. I sent the unit back!! You get what you pay for... I found a sensor which works with a magnetic probe; therefore, it will only detect vehicles and metal objects passing over the buried sensor. The unit works at 900mhz and its range is 2000 feet. Price: $489.00. It was expensive, but it works!! I did not need to run power to the front gate, and that was another savings!!

I purchased the unit from: http://www.reliablechimes.com/dwa7.html

Good luck,

Joe

Joe, Where did you get the first one you tried that you ended up sending back? Was it the "Design Tech" brand? My drive is only 175' and there are no trees, so it sounds like it would work for me. $489 is more than I can spend. Thanks.

I bought it from Smarhome.com

This is the unit that did not work for me: http://www.smarthome.com/7135.html

As I looked at their web page, the unit I am using now is being sold at Smarthome!! This is it:
http://www.smarthome.com/790909.html

Smarthome wants $699.00 !!!! While Reliablechimes.com is selling it for $489.00. What a difference!!!!

Hope that helps,

Joe
