So....I gather that the 'filter' inside this cannister is probably more like a screen?

Correct. Once removed from the "cannister", the filter will consist of a screen wrapped around a permanent central core. Keep the core, replace the screen. I have a similar system on my two tractors, and buy 80x80 micron brass screen by the running foot. From this bulk stock, I then cut replacement pieces to wrap around the OEM core

Here's the fluid my local NAPA has in stock:

Hydraulic Fluid - All-Purpose Tractor, 5 GAL

That ought to work, correct?

That'll work just fine. But note the manufacturer. You're going to pay a premium for the yellow bucket and NAPA logo. I'm betting you'll find it cheaper under the actual Coastal brand, sold around here by Advance Auto Parts, O'Reilly's, AutoZone, etc.

We buy a the brand I showed in the earlier post for some of my equipment. Its called Extreem and runs $26.99 for 5 gallons just to give you a base line on price.

Most WallMarts carry that UTF in 5 gallon buckets too.
Don't remember the price but I think it's pretty close to what Chris said. I know it's less expensive than the Napa stuff.

I have the same tractor as you the screw in plug dipstick reads 2 do I add fluid? I heard you gust fill it up to top is that correct?
