Did somebody lose some rocks?

It's funny how those of us who have rocks wish we didn't, and those that don't wish we did. I just had a friend drive up from the bay area to pick up as many rock as I could load up into his truck and trailer. The whole time he kept saying how much those rocks would have cost to buy.

Thanks for the compliments on the trench. Yes it was all done with the backhoe. I don't know how I ever lived without a backhoe on my tractor. I've only had it about 2 weeks and already have about 20 hours on it. I still have more trenches to dig, stumps to remove, and footings to dig for a 30x50 shop.

I guess not everyone has rocks even in a rock rich area, today I saw a 'middle aged' man loading his 4 dr sedan with rocks from a development on the outside of town. Kinda wish I could have gotten a pic, I know his car didnt have overloads anyway

I actually love all the rocks I have been digging up. I put the to good use for landscaping borders, focal points in the beds etc... I am ready to start a hedge row that will go about 600 ft as a property divider between mine and my neighbors property. Some of my collection to the right, lots more on the other side of the house using those for my pond area next year.

We have the glacial-deposit rocks here in Northern Idaho. A pain to dig fence post holes, I go through a LOT of shear pins. And trenching is an adventure. But we make good use of them in our landscaping projects and flower bed borders. I only wish we didn't keep hitting them with the mower blades...

Is that your fence? Did you put it in? I bet there were some 'fun" holes to dig and some bent t-posts. Perhaps most of the rocks being small makes them managable. I'm sure the backhoe is the best way to put in a trench. Nice job!

Here in VT we have no rocks, Just some pieces of soil are harder than others.

This rock was not lost. It was put there on purpose, with a few hundred others.
1980 I planted some old fields to pines.
2006 I cut a road though one of the fields and came across this stash. The rock in the pictures was the biggest in this hole, and instead of moving it out, I dug a little deeper and burried it. All the others were removed.
Many time around this ole farm I just shake my head in wonder when looking at something that previous owners have done. This underground rock pile was one of these things. I imagine this happened at least 100 + - years ago. The toughness and creativity of those folks that settled and re-settled our land is really hard to grasp.
I guess it was easier burying these rocks than hauling them over to the wall. I don't know why it was easier, cause there are stone walls everywhere...another source of wonderment.

Mapmaker, I live in the central region of VT in the mountains, and I keep looking for soil. It is so rocky that rather than trying to till a garden, I am screening bank material, and making rows and hills on top to plant seed. I am thinking of getting a Virnig rock bucket. Does anyone have one? It looks like it could be used for a good many things.
