Diesel Fuel Additives?

I use Power Service anti-gelling fuel conditioner in the winter months. During the summer months I used their fuel conditioner formulated to increase cetane and furnish lubricants that are missing in the new ULSD fuel.

Texas Refinery makes a good product but it is not available in this area at a retail store. You can buy it by the case but that was about $250.00 and there was a $300.00 minimum order fee.

The Power Service fuel conditioner can be used at different mix ratios to increase cetane 4 to 6 points. It is also available here in a container size that will treat 50 to 25 gallons depending on the mix ratio you desire. In the winter you will have to use the anti-gelling product.

Actually a case of DZL-PEP is $163.44 and a 6 gallon pail is $209.40. Knock off 20% this month for the June special they are running and it's $130.76 for a case and $167.52 for a 6 gallon pail. There is no minimum order. Orders over $300 ship free and orders under $300 incur a $20 handling fee.

Is Power Service sufficient additive to increase the lubricity of ULSD?

Is there a Lubricity only additive , that can be used along with PS or replace PS ?

Should I worry about icreasing the Lubricity of ULSD, I have seen many discussion in this forum, stating that the Fuel Refineries have already compensated for lubricity at the refinery ?????

I use shaeffers additives
Schaeffer Oil | SoyShield Soy Diesel Fuel Additive

They are harder to get than powerservice, but worth it!

I use Howe's Lubricator in both my Kubota and my Cummins powered motorhome.

I talked to the nice people at Texas Refinery last week and the woman I talked to that handles the New Hampshire area gave me the case prices for the DZL-PEP with the anti-gelling feature for cold weather. She told me there was a $300.00 minimum order fee, for me anyway. There is no retail options anywhere around here. She told me the only thing I might be able to do is find someone who used the product and see if they would sell me some.

The problem is my situation is such that one quart of Power Service lasts me two years. A 6 gallon pail would be a 48 year supply, at 55 I don't have that many years left. I couldn't see buying a case of the summer grade and a case of the winter grade so I asked about using the winter grade year round. I have heard great things about their product but until it is available in smaller quanities it's out of my reach.

A quart of PS lasts you 2ys? Does that kubota stay parked 50 months out of the year?

Most of the diesel additives contain Stoddard Solvent as the main ingredient. One of the more popular ones (and one that is approved by GM for use with the Duramax diesel) is Stanadyne power formula. According to the MSDS it contains 95-98.5% Stoddard solvent and the remainder is 1,2,4 Trimethylbenzene.

If an extreemely cheap person wanted to, they could use the internet to determine if other products that cost 1/4 as much contain the same ingredients. Were I such a cheap person (actually, I'm cheaper), I may have find out that "Parks Mineral Spirits Paint Thinner" is 3.5% 1,2,4 Trimethylbenzene and 96.5% Stoddard Solvent. It is under 10 bucks a gallon, on sale down to 7.95. Diesel additives are about that much for a qt.

There have also been a lot of posts around about adding 2 cyle oil to diesel. A rate of about 100:1 to 150:1 is what many are running. There is "supposed" to be enough lubricity, but there may not be. Read various diesel sites for rates of failure of diesel pumps, injectors and such.

The mix ratio on the Power Service container says it will treat 100 gallons of fuel. I purchased my Kubota in the spring of 2002. I have used almost 2 containers of Power Service. I add Power Service to almost every tank of fuel. Looking at it that way I've burned maybe 250 gallons of fuel and have about 450 hours on the meter which equals 1.8 gallons per hour.

I guess the L3000DT is pretty fuel efficient. On a busy day I have used 3 gallons of fuel. On those days I make a 9 mile one way road trip to a field where I am cutting the trees back from the edges of the field.

That is VERY interesting...that's ALL I'm buying when I buy power service silver?

Can anyone verify this?
