Diesel Fuel Additives?

Looks like you have to put in a bit of moth ball with lighter fluid and paint thinner to duplicate Amsoil's recipe.

With the main ingredient as Stoddard Solvent, there is no lubrication. I used Stoddard for parts cleaning years ago when I had a shop.. Dryed the heck out of your skin and just blew the parts dry.

Kerosene has more lubricity than Stoddard and it even causes excessive wear when blended with diesel.. I would definitely make sure to run a lube additive.

Something like this, which is made specifically for Heavy Duty Diesels. AMSOIL ADF

Diesel Concentrate Performance Fuel Additive (ADF)
Total system cleaner and lubricity improver for all types of diesel engines. Improves the performance, fuel efficiency and longevity of diesel engines while reducing deposits, black smoke and emissions. Improves fuel economy by cleaning dirty injectors and restores horsepower. Designed for use in heavy-duty diesel engines.

Doc,

You are correct. Stoddard SOLVENT is used to clean the pump and injectors of built up grunge. The added lubricity is from the naptha (and in my mix from the 2 cycle oil).

Like I said before, I'm not telling you to stop waisting your money by buying products like the one from Amsoil. They make a good product and many feel it is worth it.

CP1969 - maybe I should add 3 mothballs to the mix? I would but who wants to hear high pitched moths?

Four is the only fair way to do it. At least then they'd be in the same key.

So there might be something to the old stories about putting mothballs in your gas tank to increase miliage?

I don't think so. The ingredient in MB's is napthalene. It's a aromatic (C10H8) hydrocarbon and provides lubricity.

Actually a case of DZL-PEP is $163.44 and a 6 gallon pail is $209.40. Knock off 20% this month for the June special they are running and it's $130.76 for a case and $167.52 for a 6 gallon pail. There is no minimum order. Orders over $300 ship free and orders under $300 incur a $20 handling fee.
I would be intrested in knowing experiances from any B100 users of those products.

fyi for others it has been kicked around to make all ulsd b05 so that the bio makes up for the lube and detergint issue.
The biggest problem with bio is cp, I will be letting you all know how that goes with B100 in the near future.

If I were to order some of DP's products I would be happy to split it out but that is still a fiew mo down the road though.

I talked to my chevrolet dealer about addying additives to my duramax. He printed out a notice from GM. GM does not reccomend adding any aditives at any time. If you do add adatives make sure that they do not contain isopropyl alcohol. The only one that they do reccomend is Stanadyne (sp).

As long as I have a warranty on my duramax and the repairs are expensive I am not going to add anything to it. After the warranty wears off if I dont trade it in for a new one I might consider doing that then.

Think about this...it would seem that GM expects fewer repairs by not adding additives, does it not? What other reason would they have for telling the end user not to use additives?

The reason why Stanadyne is allowed to be used is because it is a demulsifier. The DMax has a water separator and emulsifying additives, which almost all other additives are, reduce the effectiveness of it.

Now, IF you make it thru the warranty period AND you have no problems, WHY would you deviate from what got you those successful results?
