Nope, I buy fuel at a station and never had problems nor used a heater to -17F. No need too.

We use Kleen-flo LSD Diesel fuel conditioner, and also add a fuel lubricant.

Have never had a problem with Kleen flo.

I don't even button my coat until it gets below 0F! ! Just kidding. But seriously, I agree, things are very different at -25F than they are at +10F. Very.


Today's fuel will cloud at temps as high as 40F. Get some and stick it in a cooler with your beer. The ULSD is also harder to keep from gelling than the older stuff.

I used to use the PS stuff. But, after gelling me up bad 3 times in the same winter and that at a 3-4x dose, I went over to Howes Diesel treat. I use that in the winter and have had no gel issues since.

I also add 128:1 2 cycle oil to the diesel to regain lost lubricity. Much more cost effective than the other lubricity additives and it actually makes things more lubricated. That's 1 oz per gal of fuel. It's about 9 bucks a gallon at wally world. Some guys go 50:1 and some go 250:1. It may not be needed at all, but....

Hmmmm. Come to think of it, Biodiesel does form a pretty good head when you pour it!

I use the same stuff. The Volkswagen dealer advised me to use only Kleen-flo LSD Diesel fuel conditioner in my Passat TDI. Treat every second tankful in the summer, and every tankful in winter. I've used it, or the non LSD conditioner in the other older engines for years in addition to ATF for some added lubricity without any issues.
