Diesel oil in gas engines

As far as running one oil in all your equipment, do you run one fuel in them all? One anti-freeze? One tranny fluid? Then why try one oil?

Why do you think all the oil companies make LPG specific oil . Your engines may be still running but ide bet the cam and crank bearings are now the colour of copper . Its not hard for you to check what ive said on the net .

Maybe I'm wrong, but I've seen LPG engines with regular oil in them go in excess of 20,000 hours. This is the norm, not the exception. I checked the service manuals of LPG forklifts, none of them specify any kind of special LPG oil. They specify the same oil in a gasoline or LPG engine. I don't need to check the 'net, I checked the manufacturers service manual.

LPG has a high Sulfur content , it is Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) which is highly corrosive after combustion . It causes the Lead (Pb) to leach from Babbit Alloy (Pb-Sn) The breech of this layer which provides corrosion resistance and anti friction properties is the precursor to the ultimate failure of the insert bearing due to corrosion . This is fact , ask any metallurgist . I dont open my mouth in front of thousands of people if i don't know what i'm talking about . Egon / Yes LPG engines do have cleaner oil , the reason being that it is the Carbon from burnt and unburnt Petrol that makes the oil go black in a Petrol engine . (Carbon Black)

I just checked my ford manuals.. and the same oil is listed for the lp gas models as the gas models.. but then.. most of my ford manuals are for older equipment.. 79 and back.. might not have been too many lpg designer oils then? dunno?

Back in the place where LPG is processed the H2S is removed. Put some C3 containing H2S in the line and you have a line to clean out. If you can manage to get some as far as rail cars you get real popular!

Oil in LPG engines stays clean but some of more volatile products in the oil will evaporate out giving you a different viscosity oil.

This is a 6 page study conducted by The National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) . The study is called "Accelerated wear in Babbit-Coated Bearings" This is the web address - http://web.nace.org/content/Publications/MP/2002/0212032.pdf There are electron microscopic photos of the bearing surfaces at different stages of damage caused by byproducts of LPG combustion , I found it very interesting myself .

OK. So the bearings wear faster under some conditions. 20,000 hr norm life says the engine doesnt care. Should we?
Diesel oils typically contain zinc. They are the best insurance for any highly stressed engine.
