I thought I had a case of Dejavu.

Sorry guys. Not sure how that happened.

I know this is an unpopular viewpoint, but I don't think gas is too expensive. I remember the late 70s/early 80s when gas was such a large part of the budget people were flocking to Hondas and Toyotas and car-pooling. Now most of the cars on the road are gas guzzling SUVs with one occupant commuting to work. And most pickups are driven to bolster the owners ego. I understand the need for a good work truck, but most of the pickups are luxury cars.

You are probably correct Buggs67 but it won't be the first time the truth is unpopular.

I guess I see your point, but I see that high gas prices really hurt the working poor. Now that prices have gone down a bit, folks are spending money on other things, helping out the economy.

I do think that efforts to increase mpg on cars and trucks should continue, so that we get less dependent on foreign oil and help the planet out. I think we have a moral obligation to pollute less.

I bought a brand new Chevy Blazer in 1972, paid $5,200 USD for it.
Gas in the San Diego area was at $0.25 a gallon.
$5 for a fillup.

My newest vehicle is a 2004 Ford F-250.
I paid ~ $50,000 for it.
Fuel (Diesel) is anywhere from $ 3-5 USD per gallon.
$120 for a fillup!

Inflation has jacked up prices at least 12X, so I agree with Buggs67, Fuel isn't Too expensive, it's more that salaries haven't kept up...
I sure wish my paycheck was 12X higher!

Another unpopular viewpoint is that the lower prices will hurt the economy in my area. Here in the area along Interstate 10 between Houston and New Orleans, we have been blessed with a robust economy for many years because of our oil production both inland and out in the Gulf of Mexico. With oil prices going so low, a lot of the oil drilling and production will slow down and people will get laid off.

By the way, I paid $2.89 for diesel today in a small town just outside of Baton Rouge.
